I just love those chilling deep voices that some female singers have, like the lead singer of Vixtrola or Kidneythieves.
Wich is the best female voice out there these days, in your opinion? I vote AMY LEE

Man, Brody's voice is awesome. I'd go with her or Bif Naked...I like Gwen Stefani if she's singing old No Doubt stuff. Joan Jett is also a HUGE favourite of mine.

Maybe my ear has matured.

Whitney Houston (before Bobby Brown and the drugs)
Lauryn Hill (but I don't like her music style)
Christina Aguilera (and not just because of her "Dirty" video (Mmmm!))
Karen Carpenter

These two have voices fitting to their music style that no one can match for beauty and meaning:
Sarah Mclachlan
Joni Mitchell

George Michael has the BEST male voice I have ever heard.

India Arie, I'm not a huge Evanessence fan, but Amy Lee is beautiful and has a decent voice, also Bjork is so unique that I've never heard another voice like hers.

Katt, the female singer you are talking about is AMY LEE (that was my first choice too, and most people's here).
I must include the singer from Nightwish also, she has a glass-breaking voice; and why not the girl from Guanno Apes?

Katt

Ah, i knew you would pick Sarah Brightman.

Have you ever heard Jamie Blake bust some vocals? If you enjoy electro-goth chances are she'll give you spine chills. Here's a tip, go to : www.sampler.freenetrecords.com/

For those of you who think that females have no place in death metal or black metal, I recommend the following bands:

Hanzel Und Gretyl
Arch Enemy
My Ruin

Now THAT is some POWERFUL female vocals!

Tim and Julie B

Lauren Hill from the Fugees. She's racist so I wouldn't buy any of her crap, but man she was blessed with a gift for singing!

Are you kidding Tony? Metal has more sub-genres than any other musical style on earth. Examples:

speed metal
thrash metal
death metal
black metal
death metal
power metal
gothic metal
glam metal
industrial

and that's only the major ones. I'm probably even missing a few. :)

Hey,,

I am a metal fan..... but the only time I could ever put the word "metal" beside the band Linkin Park would be if I were referring to them as "Crap metal" :)

As much as I dislike Linkin Park, do actualy quite enjoy Limp Bizkit on some level. It is just fun to listen to. As for metal bands, a few of my faves include but are not limited to:

Cannibal Corpse
Gore Rotted
Cradle of Filth
Mercyful Fate
Deicide (ooohhh..they are wicked!!!!!)
Carcass.

Now for those who are not familiar with metal, and may find it disturbing... keep in mind that metal listeners should not be pigenholed into the stereotype of aggressive and depressed, masochistic, drug-using devil-worshippers. You would be surprised at the amount of... well... I hate to use the term... normal....people that listen to death metal either regularly or on occasion. The lyrics can actually be quite comical, and at the same time well crafted and poetic.. if a bit gorey. I find the lyrics of a number of metal bands such as Cannibal Corpse and Gore Rotted to be... almost funny at how outrageously over the top they are. I actually do not see them as sinister, the way most people think of them.
The musicianshp in metal can be incredible as well... one of the main reasons I like it. Blast beats are very energetic.. and there is some wicked guitar work in these songs. And you have to respect the vocals. Sure.. these are not always comparable to Pavarotti in terms of classical style..... but they are a different sort of singing. Tell me... how many of us can hold a deep, scratchy growl for more than a few seconds without coughing up a lung?

If people can get over that silly 1960's and 1970's mentality of "heavy music is evil"...... you may find an interesting genre of music that is both entertaining.. but will not turn you into a pick-axe murderer. As an old movie once put it.... metal is just like Beethoven, Bach and Mozart...... only louder. This is not an exact quote.... I can't even remember the name of the movie.... but it gets the point across.

Now to get back on topic..........

I really enjoy the voice of the woman in Evanescence. I am not the biggest fan of the music...... but she has a big, powerful, and beautiful voice.

JimmyDavid
01-11-05, 05:30 PM
I can see you're more into black metal, so it's understandable why Linkin park doesn't please you. I bet you like Dimmu Borgir and others like that...

I'm not too deep into the whole metal thing but i agree with most of the stuff you posted. People will always label those that look or sound a bit freaky to them. It's the same about reptile-keepers, we are the weirdos.

Double J , keeping in the realms of this thread. With the deep growling, without coughing up a lung, how about the women that can do it? My 2 all time favs for this Karyn Crisis(Crisis) and Alicia Morgan(very obscure women doom band from the 90's - 13)
2 others that come to mind, Thorr's Hammer and Arch Enemy!

Double J- I agree 100% of everything you said. I come from a family that enjoys jazz, classic rock and country. Only thing I enjoy out of my family is classic rock, other than that, I enjoy a wide range of metel and it never ceases to amaze me how much of an impact the genre of metal has effect the different types of music as a whole. My favorate band thus far is White/Rob Zombie for metel. Amazing stuff. His music is definatly orginal.

Anyway back on topic, for female singers, AMY LEE! :D

I can't forgive Amy Lee for her rendition of "Heart Shaped Box" yet.

I hate, hate, hate country music, but I think Martina McBride has an incredible voice.
Love Janis Joplin's voice. Lauryn Hill was incredible before she went totally insane. Same for Whitney Houston, even though she sang crap. Aretha Franklin, of course.

Free Dominguez from Kidneythieves
Tarja Turunen from Nightwish
Amy Lee from Evanescence
But I'd say Sharon den Adel from Within Temptation has the best voice!
