My ball is going into a shed. Its very clear as his belly is VERY pink and he seems to be getting opaque. I was just wondering if its normal that they go into their water dish a lot. Ive had him for two years and never seen him in the dish so much. Is humidity to low, hes in a rubbermaid, or is it just random behavior?

One more question...do you guys spray the rubbermaid, if you even do, when they are opaque, after the finish being opaque, or if your lucky as they are shedding?

This is basically a question for any snake...

Thanks!

If your ball is in the water dish during a shed, chances are the humidity is too low. I aim for 80%+ during a shed. HOWEVER, I have one female ball who, regardless of humidity levels, will lay in her water dish for 10 days straight until she sheds.

From my experience, I have rarely, and I do mean rarely seen mine soak.

I keep em in rubbermaid racks, no airholes!! I just leave an airspace between the top of the tub, and the shelves in my racks. When I built my racks I used a tub, and a piece of cardboard (from a Sony Wega box) on top as my spacer between shelves. All humidity is ambient, and provided by water dishes. I ONLY mist when their eyes cloud, once every evening until their eyes clear. Sometimes I don't even mist, due to leaving picky eaters alone and not realizing that they had gone into shed, and then finding a perfect shed when I check on em next. I mist the snake directly and the warm end of the tub lightly.

This works in MY situation and obviously won't work for everyone due to many variances, (environmental, type of room heating and ambient humidity etc.). My balls are 100% healthy (in my opinion), and shed perfectly everytime. As I said before, this is how I do it, and may not work for others. Hope this helps though, and if not I'm sure the gurus will reply soon enough. :D

Monday and Tuesday he was in the dish every time I opened his rubbermaid up, I checked maybe twice each day. Today I checked 3 times...He was in the water dish only once at around 2.

Ill spray a bit and see if he stays outta the water dish, but from him going into the dish hes spilled water, so id assume this raises the humidity a lot.

Ive also checked for mites/ticks. I checked anything floating in the dish, the entire rubbermaid, and him as carfully as I could. Ill see what happens after he sheds and ill keep you guys updated.

when i notice my balls are going into shed i move their water dish from the cool side over to right above the heat pad, and i've had nothing but perfect sheds since i started that.

Once in awhile mine will soak for a shed.

I hardly mist rubbermaids ever. If it seems to dry for a shed, I overflow the water bowl a little bit.
