I was at the fall Edmonton reptile show and their was a guy their with a snake that im still kicking myself for not getting/ It was a small snake, bright green and about as thick as a pencil. Now the reason Im wondering is because he told me it ate insects? Now im assuming it was some type of garter so that is why i posted here. Does anyone know what snake i am talking about. Thx/

Probably a Rough Green, Opheodrys aestivus. They seem to be much more common in the pet trade. Of course, most of them don't seem to do well either. A little tricky in captivity, but not too bad.

Rough green for sure. There were some for sale at the TARAS Show too.

Rough green are definatly more predominate in the reptile trade, and they do eat insects.

I've heard that captive green snakes can be hard to feed, but many of them will accept spiders?
