This is Medusa eating tonight. She weighs 764g the rat is 200g. I got her this summer and she was around 200g and eats rats like there is no tommorrow. She ate 2 of these, one a week, missed a week to shed ate another one, missed a week to shed and is now eating again this week. I started her on this size when she got to 500g.

Just nailed and coiled it.

I got my female this summer also and she was 113 grams. She is closing in on 800 very quickly. She too eats rats around the 200 gram mark. GREAT PICS by the way...She looks great!!

Those rats are too big in my opinion. That's over 25% of their body weight! From my past experience, the larger the item you feed your snake, the more chance you have of your snake to just stop eating one day, for no apparent reason. I feed even my big 3000g females rats no larger than 180-200g. Regardless of size, the snakes are only going to retain maybe 30-40g or that after a pee and a poop, so why bother? It's kinda like drinking a super big gulp (1 gallon) when your bladder can only hold 1.5 liters. Pointless in my opinion.

I've always been told to feed them a meal that leaves a noticable bulge. A 200g rat leaves nothing in my 2000g girl so I would think it to be a small meal, her 500g rat barely leaves anything. Medusa eats a 200g rat without any problem every week, the bulge only last 2-3 days, so I'm guessing it is ok. Out of 600g of rats (3 200g'ers) she gained 264g. That was after a 2 sheds and BM. If I was feeding her small rats she wouldn't have barely eaten that much in 3 feedings? I don't think it is hurting her to eat 200g rats, she takes them every week and doesn't look obese at all? If I was feeding her only small rats I would be offering her every 3 - 5 days or 2 at a meal in order to leave her with a nice bulge.
