If it's CITES listed, it's endangered.
Easy, huh?

If you want to go by CITES only Appendix l species would be considered endangered. Appendix 2 species are threatend but through the permiting process are thought to be safe from becoming over exploited.

The only Chameleon species that falls under Appendix l is Brookesia perarmata. The remaining species, except for Rhampholeon, fall under Appendix ll.

But also as Hilde said if it's CITES it's endangered. CITES is just slow to make the changes to include many more species.
Being endangered is especially true with all but a couple of the Malagasy species. The only reason those couple of species are somewhat plentiful is trade is banned. If trade were to reopen for them they would be in the same position as all the other species.

Whats truely horrible is that more is spent on importing and buying the animals rather than helping them in their native habitats.
