In turtle keepers experience, how great is the threat of feeding wild caught earthworm to turtles.

From what I understand nightcrawlers and earthworms often carry parasites, but are those parasites transferable to turtles? and how great is the threat if the parasites are transferred?

Lastly, what parasites would the nightcrawlers and earthworms carry?

All wild animals carry parasites of some sort. Many of them live in harmony with the host. It's just that in captivaity, the parasites keeps re-infesting and may cause problems.

I don't know what nightcrawlers carry, but I do not feel it is a real threat to the overall health of my turtles. They probably have parasites already.

Thanks Wu-Gwei,

I appreciate the reply. I understand how prevalent parasitism is in the wild, the worry was regarding some of the stories i've heard with other herps in captivity with parasites.

What you've said makes sense though,

Thanks,

Steve
