I have the opportunity to get a Cobalt Blue on Friday, a species I have always admired. Now I know they are known for their aggressiveness............I have had tarantulas for the last 3 years, but only rose hairs....................think I can still handle it?
BTW, I don't handle any of my tarantulas..........I leave them be to enjoy their enclosures...................

oh im sure u can handle a lividum, the question is, do u really want one? they are a gorgous t for the first 1-3 days, and after taht u have a nice little pethole. they are serious burrowers and u almost never will see ur t. as an alternative, i suggest a green bottle blue, and ull havea lot more fun wit that t, its got nice blue, green and orange on it, very nice looking. lividum is just not the best t for u since u kept rosies in the past, mostly more serious collectors get them just to HAVE the tarantula. and u are right, its very agressive.
got with a green bottle blue, my suggestion.

Thought about that also, but my supplier hasn't had them in over a year...........I'm not interested in waiting longer, nor paying an arm and leg for it.................thats why I was going with the colbalt blue as I can get them at a decent price...........
Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep my eye out for them too.

but really, its not even about the green bottle blue or the price. i LOVE the way cobalts look they are amaising but ull NEVER see it. same with similar tarantulas like blue fangs. ppl get just to have them but i wudnt get it as a second tarantula species. my favourite tarantula is acanthoscurria geniculata, brazilian whiteknee. AWESOME looking tarantulas, terrestrial, heavy bodied, get large up to 8-10", not very agressive, and will stay out in the open, grow FAST and eat with GREAT appetite. very reasonable price too. i wud deffinately look into that. anyways u decide, sorry for being so against ur wish, just told u my opinion on them;) have fun if u get one, they are very nice

Wow...
If I believed everything I read on the net, then I wouldn't have gotten my little cobalt girl here.
I'm glad I did. Her name is Velvet, and I can see her 24/7. She stayed for a time in the cubbyhole under the bark (but I could still see her), but has since moved out into the open. She's been there for the past month. Maybe she will molt someday (??), but she only just molted this summer. I really doubt she is due.
Oh, and I can reach in and change the water dish, too. If I'm reeeal careful, I don't even get a threat display. Well, I use tongs to grab the dish, anyway, I don't want to be bitten by a spider. But the point is, she isn't super aggressive like my OBT is.
She's a good pet, and goes to show not all animals fit their reputations exactly.

BTW, both the cobalt and the H. maculata next to it (the vertical cubbyhole one), both like to defecate in their water dishes. I'm used to that from my monitors, but a spider?? Some of the others have done it too.

deffinately not all animals meet their reputations, i agree, and also i really dont take that kind of information from internet, only husbandary needs, but ive been told about these t's by a couple very experienced people, who informed me about this species and actually talked me out of getting one from them for that reason (cobalts are actualyl one of my favourite t's lookswise :). ) but i totally agree on the fact taht not all animals meet their reputation, i have a 3 inch female L.parahybana who is not a big eater AT ALL, barely eats. I know several ball pythons who have a better feeding responce then boa constrictors next to them, and P.regalis who burrowed in moss with a tall piece of cork bark present in the tank etc. and thats why i wasnt 100% against it, i just wanted to help. And i said that she can deffinately take care of one. just wanted to point out the bad sides and the fact that for that price a much cooler t can be purchased in terms of behaviour reputation lol. But if u wana take chances, deffinately go for it!

Again i wrote so much.Damn it! lol ;)

Well I got the spider yesterday. I'm keeping her/him at my store for now, till I get used to her/him. Got the lid off the delivery container and carefully lol put it in the tank I set up. I poked around a bit (curiousity is a terrible thing) I got a full threat display..............lol. I called earlier to see if she'd come out of the container yet and I was told she was up on the glass of the tank, checking things out. Probably trying to find a way to escape..........LOL. I appreciate everyones opinions and experiences. Thanks

Congratulations!
And don't you find their threat displays absolutely ADORABLE? hahaha, there's something terribly amusing about an animal that is five inches big thinking it will take on something as large as us! What spunk!
My OBT is the best. It will fall over backward in its attempt to look ferocious.
Have fun.

Here's a display for ya!!
Pinky and all!! Apparently someone doesn't like to be disturbed when she's eating!!! (Aside from that she's a little angel!)

Well I moved the Cobalt into another tank, most suitable for him. That was fun.............LOL. After many strikes at the container I was prodding him into and hearing his fangs hitting the container more times than I care to remember..................he got into the new enclosure, promptly found the hide and has since webbed himself in completely......................heehee............ ......
Thanks for everyone's input.
