Is there any other source of heat besides the light?

I wouldn't really worry about him falling, as long as he isn't falling onto anything that could hurt him and it isn't overly high. Why he is climbing would be the answer I'd be looking for. If you only had the light he might be climbing to get close to the only heat source, but you have a heat mat. Could be he is too hot, one time I noticed my Ball climbing allot more then usual, I checked his temps are they had gotten much too hot for him so he was trying to cool down. I'd just check over your husbandry and make sure everything is ok, and if everything is, then mabye he just likes to climb.

I'm not an expert in Ball python behavior but I don't think Ball pythons like to be held. They are solitary animals and too much handling can stress them out. I personally only handle mine when cleaning or inspecting them.

ball pythons are shy and elusive animals, what your describing sounds as if your cage temps are too high. I have seen ball's do exactly what your describing on hot summer days when my cage temps get a bit higher then they like. that’s how I know when its getting warm.
what are you using to measure the temps? what are your hot and cool spots, and ambient temperature ??
as for handling a snake doesn’t try to get attention some snake tolerate it more then others, but that is as good as it gets.

well I would say bring the hot spot down to 90. and as for ambient bring it down too 78, see if that helps. a hot spot over 90 is not necessary, your ambient seems on the higher end but still ok, I would being it down a bit though, see if it helps.

as for the having 3 hides that is a very good idea for ball pythons.

yeah, 100 seems a bit high--warm end is supposed to be 90-95. Maybe the boy is a little too warm?

yea 100° is much too hot, bring it down to 90 - 95. 81 for the ambiant is ok, that is what I heat my snake room too.
