Well I've been looking at them for a while now and while I was at a local pet store around here that is one of the few I can trust to get animals from. They've got a great reputation and I know multiple people who've gotten successful animals from them in the past. I just go there for feeders and crickets when I run out, and need a few untill the next order comes in. Anyways after talking to the owner for about an hour my girlfriend decided she didn't care what I said she was buying me the Tokay which I'm glad she did because I wanted it, he's such a cute fella, he's about 7-8" I'll get some pics up soon when I find the disk to reinstall my digital camera.

Also while I was there she told me how she was looking for a few armadillo lizards for her 40 gallon rock set up at her house. Oddly enough I had one that I was looking to get rid of because I'll need the room his 30 gallon tank is taking up for my baby leopard geckos in a couple of weeks here. So she traded me a pair of big beautiful breeder rats (one pure white with red eyes, and the female a beautiful black) who just had a clutch of 9 babies for my Armadillo lizard, and there was about 20 of their past kids in the store as well. She also gave me a free screen cover for the Tokay and I only had to pay $9.00 for its cage. All in all it was a pretty good trip and I'm starting to really like this pet store, which I can't say about any other pet store I go to. On top of it all she knocked off $5.00 on the Tokay.

She must have been in the holiday spirit or something

Anyways, I've found multiple online care sheets for Tokay geckos, and I've read things in the past but there's none extremely detailed. Does anyone know of any well written care sheets available online?

Thanks
John-Paul

Not many, the care sheeted are basic b/c tokays are basic to keep :D You should pick up a copy of The Tokay Gecko Manual"

Congrats you should try and breed them :D

Thanks, wasnt aware there was a Tokay manual I'll have to pick that up. I love reptile manuals, reading in general, but I ripped through the Leo manual a couple of times now, same with the Corn snake, and savannah monitor manual. I'd really like to pick up the Rhac guide soon here.

I'm breeding quite a bit at the moment, and this is from a pet store so I'm keeping it on quarantine longer than I do with reptiles from breeders. With just paper towels, a regular hide and a humid hide, for about 2-3 months, and I'll have a fecal done with in the week. But breeding could very well be in my future once I get some more room. I haven't yet checked for sex as I don't want to disturb it too much yet, I just checked the vent at the pet store to make sure there was no caked feces etc and completely forgot to check for sex.

Probably a male though she said she had it in the tank with the other Tokay she has and she said it wouldn't let the other one eat and tried mating it quite a bit so I'm pretty sure it's a male will check for pores tomorrow though.

Also do you or anyone else know a good Tokay breeder in the states?

Congrats, I myself bought a tokay from a petstore and she has been so awesome for me! VERY VORACIOUS. The best thing about it is that she laid 2 eggs both hatched and are alive to this day. They are about 3 weeks old and about the size of a loonie or 2 inches in length. I dont know if ur interested but I only want 1 evil bugger in my house and these little guys got quite an attitude. Keep in mind most tokays are WC so take your chances.

Thanks

YAH!!!! last night before I wrote the reply. Heh, he was sitting beside my leopard gecko aquarium in the light off to the side of the aquarium, I dont know how the heck the little thing survived. Hes thin as a bone though so I will try very hard to get him back to shape! It still makes me wonder how he got out!

Thanks

Well I'd love to take them off your hands but you live in Canada so I don't see how that would work thanks for the offer though.

I actually bought the tokay thinking its probably a male.... and it layed 2 eggs which took 6 months oddly. layed eggs in late june. I think I might buy like 5 and hope for a male and some females. How do u normally sex tokays? I would just go into the petstore and say 10 for $200 take it or leave it! They have had the tokays for along time and as far as I know probably 5 or less have sold in about 4 or less yrs so I bet they just want them gone and will probably never buy them again.

Tokays go for $20 canadian? I don't know what that is american, but the most expensive tokays I've seen over here a $19.00 because they are tame as can be from Sticky Toed Geckos (or something like that name could be wrong), I see them at all the White Plains pet shows they are like Crested geckos! He takes them out lets people hold them, they don't squirm, open there mouth or anything! It's really amazing how he gurantees all his Tokays to be tame, I wouldn't believe it unless I've held over a dozen of his tokays amongst the different shows. He has a theory of how its in the genes. He says the parents were naturally tame and he has handled them daily, then all of his babies came to be tame. The pet show is in 15 more days and I think I might purchase a trio from him. I'm having a fecal done on my female monday to see if she's got anything I should be concerned with before I think of buying any more Tokays, because I'd like to keep them together but if it's got parasites, worms etc I don't want to give them to a tame captive bred species
