Corn snake tank ideas

I would like to share some tips on a good corn snake cage.The first thing to do is buy the gravel i wouldnt recomend wood shavings calcium sand is best but gravel for toad and frogs works good to.Second thing is to buy some hiding enclosures like a hamster hut or a small cardbored box will work to basically any kind of enclosure it can hide in.Third corn snakes are great climbers i would recomened a tree like bird perch a habitat log will work to.Fourth is the warmth of your snake Do not buy a uv lamp or a heat rock the uv will burn corn snakes and they wont get of heat rocks and will be burned.I would gat an under cage heater there not powerful enough to burn the snake.Its a good idea to keep it away from a window during the day since corn snakes are mostly nocturnal.Well i hope i was some help to you.;) :)

Just curious...but why do you recomend calcium sand or gravel over wood shavings?

Calcium sand helps them digest and provides vitamins and minerals.It may be more expensive but it works.:)

I have heard that caluim should not be used as it will dehydrate the snake...is this true in your experience.

To sound rude but

I have no idea where you got this bad information.

Cali-sand is *not* I repeat *NOT* a good substrate for cornsnakes, or any other snakes for that matter. It does NOT help them digest anything, and snakes get a balanced meal in mice without supplements from sand. Sand would not only be uncomfortable for snakes, but if they swallow to much they could get impaction and die. And yes, I know it says on the bag of Cali-sand it won't cause impaction, but it can and has before.

No sand, not cali-sand or beach sand is good for snakes like corns. They need either aspen, or newspaper or something of the like.

Marisa is right, snakes derive all their food requirements from their prey items, and do not need supplements. Too much calcium from the sand could cause vitamin imbalances, as well as cause impaction in the digestive tract.

I would recommend newpaper, paper towels, or cypress mulch as a substrate.

Really i buy from a breeder that says calcium sand is best for them .Thanks for telling me.Now i wont have to spend 12.99 on a small bag of sand.

Ha ha, since when do corn snakes eat sand? They must be REALLY hungry!!

A breeder told you that? Did this breeder own stock in cali-sand?
