View Full Version : Temple!
Just picked up this female Malaysian phase Wagler's Temple Pitviper. A great example of why these are my favourite venomous species.

How hot are they? Do you need anti-venom for this species? Nice looking no doubt about that.
Cheers,
Trevor
To my knowledge, there has never been a human fatality from a T. wagleri envenomation. However, I have no desire to be the first.

Which type of venom do they have? Is it a male or a female? How big do they get?
Cheers,
Trevor
Their venom is very unusual. It actually places them very close to the bottom of the pitviper evolutionary tree. It has neurotoxic properties, peptides called waglerins. Waglerins are found only in one other snake, the Fae's Viper. They stay very small not usually exceeding 3ft. . They are sexually diamorphic, females being much more colourful and out 75% bigger than males. Male T. wagleri are very hard to come by in captivity, because they are so hard to spot in the wild. When they turn up, they usually cost quite abit more, especially in Canada. They are a great snake to work with, they're needs are very similar to Green Tree Pythons.
There's a website hosted by KS. I'd post the link but it won't allow the spelling of KS. Silly.
Forgive the poor spelling it's nearly 4am and I've been playing Halo all night. I know I'm geek with no life.

I used to have a female Kalimantan aswell. I'd love to get another. They are my favourite phase, not to mention the hardest to come by.
Yeah I got lucky and a friend got them in. Another friend got the only two males that came in though. And the males are just as colorful as the females it is so cool. And the males are so much larger in the Kalimantan. I am waiting for more lol
I'd love to get more Kalimantans. Lucky guy!

One of the reasons for no fatal bites to humans by this speci is the fact those snakes are allmost completety lethargic in daytime. Remember the Snake Temple in Penang - Thailand where tourists can have pictures of theirselfs with a bunch of Tropidolaemus round their neck, even childern are photgraphed with snakes of this kind on their shoulders....
(see for more information Scott Lacina's page about Tropidolaemus in http://www.**************
Greetings **** Visser.
I agree, they're more chill than most Ball Pythons I've encountered. I've got the wagleri page on my favourites. I was just singing your praises on the constrictors forum. Always a pleasure to hear from Mr. Visser.

drools! Where did you get that beauty from? I want! Don't tell me that was the one Henry had. Everythime I went over there I stood in front of that cage for a good couple minutes. I'm not allowed venomous. Last time I went over... GONE!
Yep that's the one Henry had. Every time I go into my snake room, I stop and look for a minute or two.
