Today, I decided to help one of my hatchilings remove some shed from its belly, I gave it a few days to see if it could do its on its own but there was no progress. So I proceded to use a moistened Q-tip to help rub it off. After a few seconds the gecko started to open its mouth and bite my hand so I placed it back in its enclosure. Once I placed it back, its tail started to shake/vibrate so I thought to myself, there goes its tail but to my surprise, it wasnt dropped. I kept on observing and I noticed that the gecko was not moving at all. So I picked it back up to see if it was breathing and it wasnt but then after a few seconds it started up again. I then placed the gecko in a seperate container, where it is breathing but has moved much since. My question is when geckos are about to drop there tail does that take so much energy away from them that they cant do much more. Im thinking that I scared the little guy to death. Thanks in advance for the help.
Sounds to me as the though the gecko is just scared....really scared.
The tail twitching is a defence - other geckos do it as well. It attracts predators to the tail.
As far as just sitting there, the animals is probably quite drained and really scared. I would suggest letting it be for a while.

Thats exactly what I have done. I just checked up on it briefly and it seems to be moving around and drinking water. :)
