Hi there, hope this is in the correct forum...
I was just wondering if there is a different option, when buying a heat/light bulb.
Can these be bought at a building supply store etc? (home depot etc).
And if so........which kind do you purchase.
Thanks!
Yes they can. Different watts for different enclosures (larger enclosures obviously will require considerably higher wattages to heat)
You can even use a normal soft white light bulb in a heat canopy dome; but for large enclosures floodlamps work great, Halogen floods being far hotter than others (good for monitors, bearded dragons etc) But, like I said, with certain 'industrial' lights, you need to be cautious of the temperatures and constantly keep an eye on any flucuations.

Yup, they are called brooding lamps(red bulb), usually for chicken houses. Very cheap too:) They last far longer than the reptiles specific ones and are less variable than flood lights and regular bulbs. You can find them at most home supply stores and feed stores.
