View Full Version : What do you feed your Rosies?
I have a 3 year old rosy that I feed hopper mice. I'm wondering if I should be feeding him rats or something bigger.
My rosy is about 20 inches long, not too fat, but I'm starting to think he needs to eat more, he is always wandering and starving.
Do you feed them mice or rats?
Do you feed them hoppers or weanlings?
If it were my snake I would probably still keep feeding it hopper mice. Smallest of my three rosies is a 24" adult female that is on hopper mice. Largest Rosy is another adult female, probably around 30" and she is taking rat pups. My male is taking small adult mice, and is a bit smaller than my largest female. I find they have better movements when they are fed prey with some substance.
If you start feeding larger meals, you are generally taking your chances. Sometimes they may keep them down, sometimes not. Generally they tend to have a more sensitive system, and are more prone to regurgitations than most other boids are. :medpuke:

What Linds said. You don't want to push a Rosie too hard especially ones under a year. I only ever feed mine once a week and I like it when I don't see a lump.

Trevor
Thanks, I guess he's just a pig and is gonna act starving no matter what. :-D BTW, I measured him and he's 24" long.

Feed him based on his girth every 7 days. When he gets a few years old you may want to back it off to every 10 days.
Cheers,
Trevor
Even less is fine. Most of mine eat no more than twice a month, and are far from thin. :flick:
