View Full Version : crack for leos?
Has anyone noticed a personality change in their leos after switching from crickets to mealies? I recently starting give mine mealies by putting them in a dish with calcium. He started checking the dish every time he saw me walk past. I've now given him a few mealies by tweezers, and he runs right over to me when I get close to his tank! Is this a normal reaction? He's almost like a junkie looking for his next fix!
Haven't noticed anything with insects, but as for a crack addiction.....lol.....well how bout a calcium addiction? They go NUTS whenever I freshen the calcium in their bowl. I mean they attack any other geckos that come near and just take mouthfuls of the stuff, only the fresh calcium, anything thats been sitting for more than a few hours they don't really go as crazy over.

im sure thats "calcium" ;) . I have also noticed they seem more "jumpy" when people walk by. They get even worse when they get their pinky mice every once in a while. Ever notice that look they give you just before feeding, looks like a beardie(sorta).

Hey Linds, how fast do you go through your calcium? My bottle is over a year old... does that stuff go bad or just lose it's calcium goodness eventually? I've never seen mine eat any loose calcium
I feed enough mouths that calcium really doesn't last that long of a time. Especially when there's alot of hatchlings around. I'm sure it keeps a fairly long time though, but as with any medication though, I suppose it has the potential to lose its potency over time. Does it have an expiry date on it?
Not on the bottle... there might have been something on the box or in the enclosed 'Guide to Healthy Herps' booklet, but having had it for over a year can't find either. Just curious, but what brand do you use? Maybe the difference is that I have 'Cricket Dust'. The label states "offers a high quality vitamin, mineral and amino acid supplement premixed with calcium", which seemed to be what I was looking for
Right now my leos (the fussy little buggers) will only eat the Rep-Cal ultrafine calcium powder, the other stuff I have (Flukers) they wont touch. They won't go near any bug that has that brand on it, but the second the Rep-Cal is provided they go nuts. I don't give my leos a vitamin supplement since their food is gutloaded really well.
ooo, my guys like the Fluker Ca better
i give Chester some about once a month just because heloves it and he licks and licka nd then will look up at me with eyes half closed (as though in ecstasy) with white powder all over his nose
can't wait till i get me digicam for a shot of that!
