View Full Version : Under Tank Heaters
Hello
I was wondering what your opinions on human heat pads vs. reptile under tank heaters are. I am getting an IJCP and just setting up the enclosure now and not sure which one to go with.
Can you list what you use and why and if you have had experience with both.
Thanks

ive personally never used human heat pads, I used exoterra under tank heaters. The oldest heat pad i have is almost 5 years old and it still works great/ I dont know how long human heat pads work for but 5 years is pretty good. The large exoterra ones are 27 bucks which isnt too bad either. But if you do plan on getting a reptile heating pad make sure it is on a dimmer. I have seen reptile heating pads get to 180 degrees ferenhiet before.
It would be safer to go with the Reptile Heat Pad as its better made for "reptile" sutuations.

I use an UTH. I'm still a little leary about using a human heating pad since they aren't really designed to be on 24/7 for long periods.

Flexwatt, cheap and easy.
I use it in my cages and plan to use it in my racks.

Human Heating pads will develop hot spots if left on for extended periods of time.. Flexwatt is your answer and it will save you some cash too!!!
