Perch ideas?

Looking for perch ideas for Emerald tree boas. Heard PVC can cause blister problems. But i have so much lying around i would like to use some, heard people burning it etc.. Just curious to what other people are using? Thanks for any help and ideas, jason

Why not just use the wood rods. That seems to be popular in all the pictures I see.

only problem with the wooden dowels is the mold up pretty fast in a humid area. branches have a much better resistance to mold;)

I use multi-sizes of wood dowels. Depending on the size of the boa the bigger the dowel I use.

Ok thanks for the help all. Just so i don't have to start a new thread, What is the best method of heat for an enclosure of 4'x3x3...I was going to use an overhead lamp, but heard bright light is a no-no for Emeralds, and a lighter or softer bulb won't heat up the cage i don't think. Nice emerald by the way Tony. Thanks again, jason

Heat tape or a heat pad.

Depending on the cage and materials your going to use to make, buy or other. Heat tape, human heat pads, ceramic emitters that are caged in units to be safe to curious snakes, and radiant heat panels all work.

Bulbs I just don' t trust or like and if bright what else will provide heat at night cause 24 hours lights does annoy and stress snakes.

Also depening on the age of this ETB, make sure the cage size fits to big of a cage for a young baby is a no no as well.

Radiant heat panels....its my favorite, nothing beats this other than the sun itself in my opinion.

Thanks for the help Tony, i think i will try the Ceramic heater. Night with this heater and day time hours with a regular lamp. Heat tape and pads i don't think will work for this cage, it is very large and heavy wood, all poly'ed up. thanks again, jason

Eh, got one more question on what type of ceramic heat to get. The cage is 4 feet high by 3 feet. Would a 150watt do it, or should i go higher? thanks, jason
These are adult emmies. if that helps with the heat at all...

I never used them, but I think 150 watt and lots of branches at different heights in your cage slowly creeping up to the heat source gives the ETBs a choice to find a temp them need. My adult ETBs are on radiant heat in that type of cage in the radiant heat photo. Slightly different but same heavy construction.

You can install 2 emitters, side by side and if 1 does not do the trick then turn on the second, remember to put these on some kind of thermostat or rheostat at least.

its a little different for me but for my cham i use a 150w cer.. at night and a 100w basking as well during the day... it gives me a proper gradiant as well as a night time drop i also had to add a space heater cause my room gets quite cold.... if you go to some pet stores they will tell you if its not hot enough you can bring it back withen a coupple days to get a hotter one.... i started out with 100 and upgraded to 150.... or to acomadate a season temp flux attach it to a thermoter or dimmer switch.... that way even if the bulb is to hot it can be turned down

I am going with the Radiant heat panels like suggested. Guess there like film verse digital camera's. Little more epxensive but cheaper in the long run.
