Australia Rocks!

Seen tons of skinks, Steve Irwin's zoo, Melbourne zoo, some tree dragons that are cool, TONS of skinks, it's hatching season here. Some saltwater crocodiles, some freshies, I watched some Loggerhead and Flatback turtles nesting for 7 hours, so awesome, lots of White's Tree Frogs, tons of cane toads, a water snake, I was close to a spotted python and death adder but didn't see them. It's friggin awesome here, I love it. Other than herps I've been to some AMAZING beaches, awesome snorkling, and fantastic national parks. Koalas are rad, the kangaroos are SOOOOOOOOOO cool, they just chill out anywhere, I got some rad pics laying down with one. Hundreds of australian waterdragons here all over the place too, amazing how they're so expensive and rare in Canada and EVERYWHERE here.

Next mission is Frilled Dragons and Thorny Devils! I feel so inspired to expand my collection drastically when I get home.

MAN!!! I love Australia!

The water dragons are so cheeky, they really are EVERYWHERE. And I always thought the number of cane toads was an overexaggeration.. no luck!!

I hope you enjoyed the Australia Zoo! I can't WAIT to go back. =)

I believe those are (or were) native to Tasmania.

Australia Zoo sucked IMO. All Steve Irwin has really are crocs, kangaroos and koalas. Nothing extraordinary, nice snake and monitor displays, but there was more merchandise than there were animals. The Melbourne zoo however was fantastic, tons of herps including a nice pair of Fiji Iguanas, Phillipine Sailfin Iguanas, HUUUUGE red spotted frilled dragons, nice dart frog displays, Jackson's Chameleons, and lots of other stuff, I actually liked the monkeys the best :D At the Melbourne zoo it took me a good 5 hours and I only saw 3/4 of the zoo, at Steve Irwin's zoo I saw everything in an hour and a half, but I did think it was really really cool how he has a Galapogos tortois that Charles Darwin owned himself, now that's friggin awesome. I've also seen some crazy insects. Some huge beatles, I think they are some type of rhinoceros beetle/scarab, I've seen some humungous stick insects, some really cool butterflies and carpenter/leaf ants, a spider the size of my hand, and some interesting moths. I also saw the cutest possum ever, so cute, and I got to cuddle a koala, how coolis that, they sleep in the oddest positions.

Oh and playtpuses sure the heck are as cool as they seem.

thats really cool brock. sounds like quite the place! i am heading there next fall and i am going to take a detour to komodo island. i hope you're having fun there.

The quality of the exhibits at Australia zoo far surpasses any other zoo in Australia. I was very impressed with the layout and overall appearance of the zoo. Although, when I was there they had not expanded the zoo.

was the spider a huntsman?

when i was there i was getting ready to go to the beach barefoot got in to start the car and a big 1 ran under my foot freaked me out for a moment but then carryed on and went body boarding.

I've seen the huntsman's, those are huge and hairy, I was staying at some people's place and one ran across the roof, now that was a shocker; the one I saw in Noosa Heads was a lot bigger and didn't have as much hair.

Thanks for telling me about the reptile place, I appreciate it, I would have missed it otherwise :D

Steve Irwin does have amazing setups, but most of the things in them are pretty common, the Komodo dragons sure were cool though.
