In montreal you don't need french. I live in Hull(2 hours from MTL...next to ottawa), and go down to MTL atleast twice a week. I speak french but the people that normally come with my don't. I actually find I speak french less in MTL then i do in ottawa.

Beats me, but when I make my rounds and decide to make the trip I come across the few that are fluent or have the thick excent.

Anyway, that last line was meant as a joke. Maybe a stupid one.
