Hey, today I picked up a 4 foot female BCI. First thing I notice are that it's eyes are really sunk in. Is that a sign of dehydration? Next I noticed it has mites. I have quarantined it and sprayed it with nix solution. I am really worried about the eyes, so if u can...Please help with some ideas to what it is.
The sunken in eyes are due to the mites.
Mites have elevated the rim around the eyes. I would treat your snake with provent a mite.I hope you have your new boa in quarantine keeping it away from any snakes you already own.
Good luck with her.
if you are worried about dehydration saok your boa in tepid water it will also help with the mites.

I agree that a nice long soak will definitely help soothe the snake from the mites (as well as drown them), however it isn't a very effective method at recovering a dehydrated animal (the aren't amphibians ;)). They need to take fluids internally. A small amount of unflavoured pedialyte works miracles on dehydrated animals. It can be administered by injection in to prey, or feeding tube.

if you can get some gatorade or powerade it will help with the dehydration.Anything with electrolites in it I would recommend using preventamite after you get him rehydrated as it is not good to have water in with the snake while being treated for mites in case he drinks any of the posion off of his skin in the water.

The mites are definitely off him. Everytime I see the snake, it's always sitting in it's waterbowl. It doesn't seem to show signs of shed either.
