View Full Version : Kingsnake problem
Hey you all, I need some of your expert advice here. I got a Cal King 2 weeks ago. I can't get it to eat anything. I first tried a f/t pinkie then I even tried a live one which it ignored. I am NOT too worried yet since I've only had it for 2 weeks but I guess I would feel better if it would go on the feed mode like my corns. It doesn't look like it is fixin' to molt and looks healthy.
I hope I don't have to force feed it. How long should I wait before I need to get worried?
Thanx in advanced:)
i'v had snakes that didn't eat for months after geting them, my hognose for example waited 5 months before he started to eat.
what i would do is keep trying live, put the snake in a deli cup/other small cup or escape proof small brown paper bag. leave it all night long and take the snake out in the morning wether it ate or not.
if it still doesn't eat after a month by trying this you may want to brain the pinky, also put it with the snake in a cup or bag all night.
then if this doesn't work after trying it a few times there is a chance something is wrong (heat is off, snake is sick, too much stress, lots of other things)
if the snake doesn't eat for another 3 months it is time to worry a tad but dont freak out. take it to a vet for a check up and fecal exam, but i dont think you will need to worry about that at all.
good luck, hope he eats soon.
Baby kings can be picky. I'd give it a week undisturbed and try again with a live pinky. After they are eating live they always go to FT easily it seems.

all I do is take the water away for a couple days and then give them a wet one - they always gobble it up no problem!

Agree with Marisa - not all cal kings are great feeders all the time and babies can be reluctant feeders. Give it some time, if they are in good condition they can go months without feeding. Our only cal king hatchling from this year has decided it is winter and he is more interested in hiding out than in feeding - has not eaten in over a month and shows no interest in food - I am sure he will be ravenous in a couple months,

Thanx you all. I have it in a sack with a pinkie at this moment. If it hasn't taken it by the time I get home tonite I'll just wait a few weeks before trying again.
