Just wondering, what do you see as the best investment boas in the next 3, 5 and even 10 years? Not just on value, but market share as well?

What morphs do you see having the most potential? Not just BCI's, I want to brainstorm Argies, Hogs, Dums, etc?

I've seen some Salmons for $500. But even it was a $400 snake, buy one male Salmon and 2 normal females for $700. Raise them up. Breed them. If you totally suck and only one goes and gives you 20 babies, then that's 10 Salmons, and 10 normals. 10x$100 for the normals gives you $1000 (STILL $300 MORE than your initial investment). And 10 Salmons x $400 gives you $4,000. That's $5,000 on a $700 investment. That's a 700% return!!! In a bank or even a savings bond, that $700 would take you over 150 years to get that kind of return.

People look. ZERO money can be made with even the MOST expensive morph out there if it doesn't breed. Yet, with the CHEAPEST morph, you can make a KILLING if it does breed. So what does that tell you? Concentrate more on actually breeding something than what the market is doing. You will ALWAYS make money if you can successfully breed your snakes. Always.

Dumerils and Hoggs fly off the shelf but Salmons and Anerys and even Albinos give a great return cash wise

Yep, what Chase said. Even if one thing isn't selling, another will. Variety is key. Its nice to specialize, but with more stuff, you'll have the security of always being able to move something out to fund the next project. Something is always selling at any given time.

i find that the people that always second and third guess themselves about the market, are always the people on the outside looking in. If you have the money to invest on investment reptiles, then do it. YOU WILL MAKE MONEY in the end.

Look at guys like Jeff Favelle and Mark Mandic, they jumped in with both feet, and I'm sure there are no complaints on their end LOL.

Exactly what Chris said. And if you don't have the money? Have the patience then. I started this whole deal with just a pair of Rainbows 9 years ago and 1.2 Balls 11 years ago. I haven't spent a penny of my own money after that. Sure I could be WAY further ahead and have way more morphs, but my philosophy was to only spend snake money on snakes. And every year, its 10's of thousands of dollars on more stuff. But you could do it 10x faster and easier than I am. Spend $2k and within 2-3 years, you'll clear $15K easy on that investment. Flip that $15K back in, and then its smooth sailing.

But get the breeding down pat. Like Chris said, if you're on the outside looking in, you'll probably always be on the outside looking in.

From what I’ve gathered:

It seems one of the best options for Boas in the long term are the sunglows. They seem to have a small market share right now due to their price range, but their looks will keep them popular and the share will increase greatly as the price comes down opening them up to a larger consumer group.

Albinos again from what I’ve gathered seem like they will remain popular, despite some genetic problems here and there. The salmon/super salmon morph also will be another that will remain a good investment. The market share on this morph is beginning to open up as the price nears $1000 and under, again opening it up to a wider audience.

At this point it feels as if ball pythons are overshadowing everything else in the hobby. They are the current craze and are taking attention away from some other very nice snakes. It's been compared to the gold rush of sorts from the 1800s.

Pure Hog Island boas seem also a solid choice and have a good following. This is especially true since they can no longer be found in the wild.

Is it correct there's less people making a living from breeding only boas than there are those who breed only pythons? I guess this is true with the ball craze.

I also agree with Jeff, you can invest heavily and produce slugs year after year!

That's a tough one ssscales. Its really hard to know what everyone has. For every dude that posts in the public forums and is well know to the snake community, there are 10 guys that produce 500 snakes per year and make $150, 000 just wholesaling everything. Its hard to know for sure what every private breeder has. But it is safe to say that there is money to be made with either Boas or Pythons. For sure.

I'm not really into morphs but i'm really going to go for a couple of argentine boa constrictors ( boa constrictor occidentalis ), another dumeril's boa, maybe boa constrictor amarali or longicauda... love womas too but not until they get cheaper!
