After doing the whole NIX treatment, I read that all my hides and substrate should be thrown out.

Because I have pretty nice hides and I use indoor carpetting as substrate, will it be good enough that I sprayed them all down with NIX and then soaked them in a bleach solution in my bath tub?

thanx.

I soaked all wood and rock deco's in bleach solution overnight and then rinsed in hot water and then soaked in hot water again. As for the platic stuff I washed in a bleach solution and rinsed very thoroughly and then sprayed them with nix and left them to dry for 24 hrs. I gave my guys cheap tupperware while their stuff was being cleaned and had no problems after.

Did you do a second treatment a week later?
or did your first thourough cleaning do the trick?

I have had problems with mites, but I didnt have expensive hides + other equipment. I would definetly do a second treatment just to be safe. A third would even be fine.......better safe than sorry.

My snake just started soaking 24 hours after the Nix treatment.

Does that mean it wasn;t effective?

You shouldn't have water in the cage while applying NIX. You are using it wrong. Take water out of cage, NIX in a quarantine Rubbermaid, let it dry, add water dish, do over again in 2 days, etc etc etc for around 2 weeks.

Cage decor can be bleached. No reason to throw it out. Bedding has to be thrown out, but a plastic hide cannot harbour mites through a bleach treatment.
