View Full Version : Rubbermaids! where'd they go?
what happened to the 31qt rubbermaids walmart used to carry? all i can find now are sterilite. i prefer rubbermaid. anyone know where i can get them. my local walmart told me they were discontinued
I've noticed that the rubbermaid shoeboxes are getting tough to find -- don't know if those are the ones you mean. I tried the sterlites as well, and they lasted a night before I tossed 'em. I found a dozen at a Walmart a week ago and bought them all up on the spot. Canadian Tire still carries the black ones.

I found perfect ones today at Canadian Tire...I was shopping instead of working, so I was in a hurry :p They were in the Rubbermaids section...
err...they look to be 22"L x 12"W x 6"H.
must find tape measure...

They are 23"x16"x6", give or take. I haven't been shopping for them in a while but I sure HOPE they aren't discontinued!!! :(

I do to..my whole rack is measured to that!!!
I use those type only, and love them. I also found that at the canadian tire I went to, they only had them in black, and not clear.

whats rong with sterlites.... i have no need for them right yet but i will soon enough..... so i just wanna know before hand
Sterlite's lids suck....
And I've had quite a few crack while putting in airholes -- that's yet to happen to me with a rubbermaid...
Edit:

The ones I were talking about are the 16" x 8" x 5" size ones(approx) -- the ones for hatchlings. They're getting harder to find as well. I hope the 23"x16"x6" ones are still being made, I need to build a rack next year... :(
Rubbermaid discontinued both of those sizes as of January 1, 2003. I read this on Boaphile Plastics site; they redesigned all of their new racks to fit Sterilte tubs now because of that.
well, out goes the plans for the rubbermaid rack. i don't want to, but looks like i have no choice...sterilite rack :(

if cracking is a prob just put a peice of wood behind where your drilling and you shouldnt have a prob..... if all else fails heat up the bit and melt it through
yeah, cracking isn't a problem. i melt all of my holes. i was really counting on some rubbermaids though. i plan to build a rack that will hold about 36 containers. i don't know if i should build one long rack or a couple short ones. anyway, i'll work something out.

I use Sterlitle plastic boxes for a couple of my snakes and they work just fine, they have the blue lids, clamp on well, easy to take off.
I use sterlite containers in a rack and they are great. I agree the lids suck so having a rack makes a big difference. I used to use the handyman's tool DUCT TAPE to keep the lids secure before building a rack. I think Sterlite is cheaper than rubbermaid as well.
Instead of 'drilling' holes a wood burning tool works great--no mess and no cracking!
Wood burning kits used to be available (maybe still are) and were great gifts for little boys. My son just happened to have one sitting around and voila......it now has a use! (it is quick too... zap, zap)

I get all my rubbermaids from Home Hardware, as Wal-Mart and Canadian Tire don't have the sizes I want, and they're carrying more of the sterlite containers. At Home Hardware I can even order them in if they don't have it in stock. Try checking that place out.

Thanks all. I found my rubbermaids!!! the lids are different...they snap instead of locking, but they're basically the same size...clear lids too! found them at Lowes.
i was not looking foward to sterilite racks. no offense to those who use them, i'm just a hardcore rubbermaid kinda guy :)
