View Full Version : Who needs yellow?

Well, here's an update on that little axanthic-type Jungle I hatched out in the beginning of summer. Here's the old pic from a few months ago:

ANd here's a pic as of this morning. Getting close to 10 months, and still refuses to yellow up! Its neat because its different. Not my ideal Jungle, but I'm a sucker for the unique! :D

You're not letting that go are you? :D If so I'm first in line:D

Man I really think that is gonna be something quite nice but we shall see. Fingers crossed

I'm not letting it go, especially to YOU! LOL! The last thing I want is Scotty strutting around the joint flashing a cool-a$$ Jungle in my face that I should have kept back, ha ha! J/K. ;)

You know though, you as well saw first hand how much variation occurs within even a single clutch, right? I wonder if you could line breed something like this. So maybe its not single recessive, but certainly you could breed for more silver and white than yellow, if that's what you wanted to do. Might be kinda neat. Imagine a Silver Jag/Jungle? I think I just wet myself.

How's the cycling coming along? Now you know what I mean when I said that before you know it, the season will be over and you'll be getting ready for the next! Ha ha! The first season is a killer and seems like it takes forever. Hatch a few hundred snakes and all of a sudden, the following season comes waaaay too soon!

:D

I like that one because of all the nice faded spots in the areas that are normally black! I think a line breeding jungles for more and wider yellow bands and more fading in the black areas.... until they have tiny black banding would be amazing, although maybe not possible.

Very neat!

I think its totally possible Marisa. It would definitely take a long long time, and quite possibly some luck, but that would be a cool project.

I'm pairing these two up right now, in hopes to increase the yellow within the black. Soooo cool!

HOLY JEFF! Those(all three) are some(to quote you earlier) "COOL @$$" Jungles!!!!!!!!!!! That adult pair is amazing! I think im going to make my first Jeff Favelle purchase next year. Im broke right now after buying a few expensive balls, lol.

As far as that little one you showed, my view goes something like this. I think that that snake will either remain that way, possibly get a little more "axanthic-y", or else become a beautiful yellow like those two adults you posted. Also, as far as the line breeding, im sure it's entirely possible as thats how Mr. Stockwell produced his beautiful line of Nuclear Kenyan Sand Boas. And as you talked about "silver" banded jungles!! WOW those would be SWEET.

Thanks for sharing Jeff! Fingers crossed that the little one turns out to be something surreal and those adults produce something amazing. My hat goes off to you for such wonderful animals!

Stupid question guys. The pet store in town has a jungle carpet for sale but haven't seen one like it before. Instead of the yellow, it's brown. Is that fairly common. Any jungles I've ever seen are the yellow. Nice pics by the way.

Jeff_Favelle

Baby Jungles start out ugly brown and white or brown and cream. After about 6 months, they start to take their true colours. A Jungle's BEST colouration is at 3 years of age.

But at this time of year, that Jungle in the pet store should be yellow by now. Most Jungles in North America are hatched out by June. Either its stunted, from a rare late clutch, super ugly, or its not a Jungle Carpet at all (misidentified/misrepresented). Weird. Imagine if it was a bredli and the guy didn't know it? Ha ha! :D

Chris man, no rush. I'll save a sweeet pair (trio? ...ha ha...) for ya! :D

Simon, thanx man! It won't be saleable as a genetic morph, but they'll still loook cool eh? ;)

I have a similar gray jungle. He looked the same when he was that ones age. He is a year old and has kept his gray look. I own both of his sisters and they are very yellow. Sorry for the poor quality pics but here they are.

Thanks Jeff. The one at the store is fairly old, he's about 3 feet. I'm quite sure he is a jungle.

<laugh> If you guys really want a snake that looks like that, get a coastal!

I say clean it up and get it like black and white like a cal king. Now that be killer.

Jeff_Favelle
12-12-04, 08:47 PM
Only problem is, I had Coastals. Been there, done that. I don't want a 12 foot Carpet anymore. I'd rather have 3 Jungles in the space that a Coastal takes up.

12 ft carpet?! BRING IT ON!

I guess it depends, really cool 12ft carpet compared to some common yellow and blk snake? Hmmm, 12 FOOT CARPET!

So, then you DO want a Coastal just not the way they look now? Do I understand what you're saying here? 6ft-12f and Yellow-White… seems like a pretty small difference to go from being “common” to “really cool” and “KILLER!”

I think sometimes it's good to live by the old "If you don't have anything nice to say..." rule... I don't know, maybe some people weren't taught that in elementary school. I was.

Nah, I always steered clear of Indonesian stuff. Heck, it was a struggle just to get the damn Chondros going. I fought that one for a bit. Plus I simply don't like Irians. I don't chastize anyone else for liking them, I just personally would rather not own any Carpets than work with Irians. Who knows, I may get some again. Thanks for the nice words man!

Ha ha Chase, you're making me blush man!

Pee-on, if you wouldn't have your nose in your silly computer books all day long, you'd see some cool things over here once in a while. LOL! Oh yeah, HL-2 Deathmatch has 3 new LARGE maps man! They ROCK!!!

Peace.......... :)

Tim, no need to get so offended, it's not your snake and Jeff seems to have gotten that I was only ranting, as coastal carpets are my favourite carpet. I would take a 12 ft coastal over any blk and yellow JCP.

The point of posting pictures of our animals is to get some feed back on them. Heck, I don't like albinos and I regularly post I don't like albinos, but not one gets offended b/c it's just me and has nothing to do with whether or not, something looks nice.

I truly think that if some cleaning up and refining on that snake is done, a gorgeous black and white JCP can be acheived.

I, also don't think Jeff needs a body guard to weed out "offensive" posts, I too remember elementary, especially the little "buddy gangs".

Tim_Cranwill
12-20-04, 12:53 PM
You're right, Jeff is one person that does NOT need a body guard on this site (unless the threat is physical! ;) :D lol). I wasn't defending Jeff. I was defending people's right to show animals not for criticism, but just for show. You know my stance, I know yours and I think I know Jeff's.

Freedom of speech is everyone's right. Not just those who like to critique things. Just like in tenis, expect a ball served to be returned. ;)

From gorgeous JCPs and photos to freedom of speech.

These posts do fly off the handle fast, gotta love forums :)

Guess I will take a different direction.

LOL Tony! I hear ya. I'm with Crannie though. Why would you go to someone else's post and say "pfft I'd rather have this and that instead of that snake"? I wouldn't do that. I'd start ANOTHER thread and maybe do it there, but I would never be so rude as to do it someone else's thread. Yikes.

What the heck is Tiramisu you crazy bastage? Ok, I'm going to google it right now..........................

More JCP pics? Too many. People get sick of them, LOL! Then I get backlash, and then no one will buy any. ha ha!

Well it wont be saleable as a genetic morph right now since its not proven to be genetical, but once you do prove out that its genetic, now that's a different story.

Just like the corn morphs, once you prove out that its genetical then the market's demand raises like crazy for these suckers~~
