Softwoods, apple, and walnut. Softwoods all contain levels of phenol which can be harmful, some more than others. Walnut contains juglone. There's something about apple wood as well, but I cannot remember.

Many keepers recommend usnig shredded Aspen. I have tried a number of things, and it has worked best for myself and others. It is reasonably priced as well, and can be found at Wal-Mart.
