I was on the net here was this ad for a full grown 4' long burm rescue. As I read I relized why it was so small , the poor thing had been born with a defect which had spilt down the spine . Anyways the breeder who had the snake insted of taking it to the vet he took a needle and thread to it himself and never seeked medical attention or put it doen humainly . There were two of them like that one died the other just made it . It's just sad that's all , poor thing .All of the above is to my understanding and some details may be wrong , but this is just what I read .

i dont know if it was really that irresponsible. many experienced people in the herp industry have a lot of veterinary knowledge, and local vets often have no idea what to do with herps. most of my breeder friends deal with the vast majority of their herps health problems on their own. stitches in particular are not very difficult to learn how to do if you have been shown how (as i have) and how could the man have predicted that mending a split in the skin would lead to stunting of the growth? moreover, how do we laypeople know that it was the stitches that did it? the snake may have been screwed from the get from the start. personally, if i had a snake hatched with a split in the skin and no other apparent problems, i would not hesitate to stitch it myself and not consult a vet (ok maybe call one). except that i have now heard this story and would rethink it. . .

It was done irresponcibly to my understanding the guy had no experince and he did not do a proper job . Yes I do see you point and agree I do allot of things for my animals to from experince . The point of the post was that he did not deal with them properly and never seeked proper medical help for them . It's just kind of sad , that's all.

what Im picturing is a animal that should have been put to sleep. A snake with it's skin split down it's spine doesnt seem like it could live a happy healthy life regaurdless if you stitch it up. Maybe this sounds cruel but some snakes arnt ment to exist. But unless I read the ad I wouldnt know all the details.

i do not think thi swas a bad idea.. if it lived long enough to be considered an adult, he must have done something right.

I tend to agree with daiyoukai. Despite the fact that the snake made it to adult-hood, it was only 4 feet long - it should have been humanely put to sleep at birth.
