changes for winter

Do you guys do anything over winter so that the reptiles dont try and hibernate? Ive had to raise all the wattages of my bulbs to achieve normal heat, but is there anything else ill have to do over winter?

Last winter I didnt do anything, but then again I only had a leopard gecko :p

Also do you guys use generators, incase a winter storm ever hits knocking out power? I assumed since it was cold, the reptiles wouldnt last very long without heat.

well i'm getting pretty paranoid about that... since we had this huge two weeks power drop during the Ice Storm, in 98... I think it would be pretty dangerous for my animals... I defenetly need a generator...

Our herp room is located right over the boiler room downstairs (we live in an apartment), so they get heated from under the flooring as well as steam heat & their enclosure heating. Since the temps have dropped we crank our heat up to 35C in the whole apartment (gotta love heat included!), then leave the patio door or a window open a bit to be sure we don't roast :p

Well my house gets ridiculous DRY in the winter. As soon as our furnace needs turning on, it means my misting has to go up by double with NO missed days. In the summer it's quite humid and one misting can sometimes last two days or so depending on the enclosure. But in the winter I really have to kick it up a notch to provide enough water and humidity to certain creatures.

Aside from that, I just check my temps as I use thermastats so they keep everything where it should be winter or summer. :D

Now that you mention it, I did notice the humidity problem. My cham enclosure has been going down to 40, but I thougt the thing just wasnt working well. Ive had to spray his tank almost 5 times every day! Ive already added it to my daily tasks

Iv noticed that too..... Now I have to spray the enclosure 3 times a day to get it to 60%

I monitor temps carefully and turn on the snakeroom humidifier..that's about it

The only thing that I notice is the humidity levels. I just increase the mistings per day.

Like Bistro, Iworry about the hydro going out. I've been looking at those Eliminator battery packs at Canadian Tire. They seem like a worthwhile investment. Does anyone here have one?
My apartment has Baseboard Heaters, so I can regulate the temp. in my reptile room fairly easily!
