Humidity

Does anybody have any suggestions on keeping humidity up. I have to spray the cage down 5 times a day.I have a small melamine cage glass front 2" strip vent along the back. I put the water dish on the warm side and use cypruss mulch as a substrate. Any suggestions would help.

What humidity are you achieving as a max, and how long and what hygometer are you using?

Around 45-55 % I was using a zoo med stick on one. But i didnt trust it so I bought a digital one from Home Depot

I was having the same problem my humidity would hover aroun 45% and I wanted to get it up to about 55-60 during regular non shedding periods (I read in a few places this is the ideal humidity) I also had to spray about 5 times a day just to keep it at round 70% during a shed. I recently got a room humidifier and it has helped alot. It is holding steady at 55-60. So to make a long story short get a room humidifier. It will also help you comfortable if your room humidity is too low!

it all depends on the substrate you are using and the amount of air flow that gets flows from your vents, adjust those and it should keep it up!

How long is your vent strip? Is it at the top or the bottom? How deep is your mulch, and how well do you spray it down. It can seem pretty damp on top, but be dry a couple of millimeters underneath. How big is your water dish? The more surface area, the more water will evaporate, raising humidity.

My 3X2's have 4 3" vents, and I have no problem keeping at 60% even on newspaper substrate. My water dishes are 10" diameter, which is probably a big part of it.

Well, I recently discarded my exo-terra meters and I found that my humidity I was achieving was 30 percent more then what they were reading.

i use a Acurite hygrometer/inout/thermo/clock.. it has a 10ft probe, takes a single AAA and works GREAT! Not quite sure if its accurate but it seems like it.. temps are right on and the humidity is reading 54% right now.. at first it was 47% then I sprayed the cage with 3 small mistings of hot water and it raised to 55%. I also have a large waterbowl (rock). It only cost me $19. its plenty big enough to see the numbers at the back of the cage.
