I have 1.1, 3 year old White's tree frogs. They are big, fat and healthy. I am interested in trying to breed them. How would I go abuot this in the right manner? What type of setup do I need for breeding? If I need a rainchamber(which I believe I do) How do I build one. How do I prepare for all the babies. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh man, you are in for a world of heartbreack man! If you breed those things, you'll be my god! I had 15 of them about 7 years ago and I couldn't breed the things if my life depended on it. I had Mantellas, Tomatoes, Poisons, etc etc, and the Whites were my favorite. Amplexus is easy. But getting the females to produce eggs is impossible. I'll dig out my White's book and see what it says (if I haven't burned it).

:D

Ha ha, challenge is an understatement!! Its funny, because the guy I was doing it with (he also owned a wackload of them; ten I think), also lived in Langley. We've both since given up on frogs though.

Yeah, this is my first time trying frogs. Its worth a shot. Do you know of any successful breeders that might be able to give me some tips? Thanx again Jeff.

Well the easiest way to do it is to inject th females with the hormone that all the breeders do in the States. Then just introduce the males and play a tape of them calling and wammo, instant eggs. But I tried like mad to get that hormone and I couldn't. Its tough without it.

Murray,
I had no idea they were that difficult. From what I'd studied they said nothing about that. I still have that white's tree frog book back home, maybe when I get home and we do the crested thing, I can hand it to you. It might help you out.

Hey Jeff, what was the name of that type of hormone?

This is it here:

synthetic human luteinizing hormone

But its hella hard to get and I tried for 5 years to get it for Tomato frogs, Monkey frogs, White's, and others.... I gave up looking when I stopped breeding amphibians. When I get huge greenhouse going, I'll try to do them naturally again, but its very hard and frusterating, trust me.

Hey Jeff could you get me some info on dosage per body weight or any info with the use of the Hormone. I know where to get my hands on some:)
