1. I feed mine silkworms and wax worms as treats, as long as they're a decent size.

2. I found my male develop his bulge by 5 months. I had heard about how this almost happens "overnight" but didn't believe it till I saw it. The Rhac book says by the time most cresties reach 3.2 SVL they should be well defined.

I hope that was of some help.

By 5-6 months old, most males are showing their wares enough to be certain they're males. However, enough of them are slow to develop external signs that it's not safe to pronounce a 7 or 8 month old 'bulgeless' crestie as female. I've had a few females end up males around 12 months old. Now I don't fall for their tricks anymore. If it's not showing an obvious bulge, and I haven't found eggs, I consider it unsexed until it's 13 months old.
Fool me once, shame on you, Fool me twice, shame on me... fool me 3 times... uh uh no way, I'm not falling for it if you're a crestie :)

my little guy, 8 months old now, just recently developed a definate bulge in the past couple weeks. i suspected a male, but at times, he didn't look any more bulgey than my female. It's no doubt now, and it was like overnight for that. now we need to find him a partner, he is lonely. he always liked watching the adult pair in the next aquarium, but this week i had to put something between them because the older male would dive at the tank wall trying to get to him. anyone know where i can get a pretty little female near northern va?

i hope mine is a female... only because they are so god darn expensive, and i can just get a mail for her cheaper if it does end up being a female.... we'll wait and see

there's another way to tell but it can be risky, at 8 months if you think you have a female place it with a male he'll let you know by his chirping and will persue her.

But if you have 2 males, the dominant one will chase the other one around.... could look like he's persuing a female with mating on his mind. :)
