How do you tell if a bp is a yellow belly? One of ours has no marking on it's belly except for near the tail.

There is about 0.01% chance you have a yellow belly. There is a chance, but a VERY slim one. No one can say either way without seeing a picture though. A clear belly is a common trait that a lot of BPs have. It doesn't mean anything.

Think of it this way; 1-4 people (minimum) had the chance to own that snake before you did and it's very likely most or all of those were looking for such traits. The chances that ALL of them missed a visibly genetic trait are slim to none.

But post a pic just to be sure. :)

Edit: unless you paid a STOOPID amount of money to get it.

You guys are brutally honest but I agree 100%. I have a 100% het albino ball that I got from a local breeder here in Iowa. I got it the day after it hatched and it has a yellow belly. Although no one else had a chance at this animal I feel that yellow bellies can crop up anywhere and are not always going to produce Ivory hatchlings. Just like a ball can have pied markers but not be het for pied.

Everyone wants to hope they won the lottery though right?

The chances of a het for Ivory popping up in a captive breeding project are very, very low.

If it is an import, as Tim said, many experts probably had a look at it, an decided it was nothing special. I'm sure the people in Africa know what to look for by now, and have a list of phone numbers when something weird pops up.

Hopefully it proves out, some day down the road, but the chances are highly unlikely IMO. The way things are going, you could probably sell it because of the belly shot picture (which I have not seen) in the U.S for good money.

Maybe even trade it for a definite het for some kind of guraanteed genetic, which would be worth the effort you'd put into this snake, down the road, guaranteed.

I also agrea with Tim and Mykee. The ch animals are picked through and then picked through many more times before they get here ;)

Ryan I would say that would be dishonest to sell it as something its not?? Now would you honestly do something like that.

Just my 2 cents ;)

IMO identifying YB's is much of a crap shoot at best. There will be ones that are obvious and then there will be the ones that are not so obvious (like het pieds). But at the end of the day if you know what certain characterisitics to look for you can make an educated guess. Good luck finding that out from the "experts".

I'm guessing that since things like yellow bellies and cinny's and a few others that really don't look that different in their het form are probably floating around out there because no one new what to look for and although I've only seen pics there isnt' a lot to distinguish them from normals, other than their super form of course. Breed it and see.
