I am considering getting my first Tarantula...but am unsure of which one would be the best for a starter.
I am not interested in breeding, nor handling, but would like one that is large enough to see (I have heard a few people saying that they rarely, if ever, see their T).
I am not squeamish feeding things :p So, if it eats pinks or other foods, I am fine with that. I have various enclosures to suit whatever needs it would have (eg. low tank or tall tank, etc).
Any hints or tips on what I should look for in a few species would be greatly appreciated. Once I have an idea of what would be appropriate, I will do more specific research to determin if I truly want one.
Thanks in advance! :D

chilean rose haired are very easy to care for, and forgiving of husbandry mistakes. they are also fairly docile, and mine are often visible.
yeah, chilean rose's are great T's, i think another good first T would be a curly hair, mine are always out and about, they feed well and are fairly docile and easy to keep.

Aphonopelma seemani, Avicularia Avicularia, and Grammostola Aureostraita are all great starters.

There are several that would be good starters. All the ones in the previous posts would be good. If you like colorful spiders you might consider a Greenbottle Blue or a Tiger Rump.
Here is my Tiger Rump (C fasciatum)

Lasiodora parahybana make excellent display tarantulas. They are fast growers, very hardy and rarely (if at all) stay hidden. The only down side is that they are frequently defensive, though you did state that handling is not a priority.
L. parahybana are terrestrial so height is not important but ground space can become an issue as they can reach 10"+.

Thank you for the replies everyone! Just wondering what price range are the last two (with the pics)? And the large one (Lasiodora parahybana), what is the common name?
Thanks again all!

Hi Caps,
The common name for Lasiodora parahybana is Brazilian salmon and since they produce large egg sacks the price is usually around $10 for a sling.
There are many great tarantulas that would make a great starter. This one in particular tends to hold attention fairly well due to the sheer size, similar in size to Theraphosa blondi(goliath birdeater) but much less problematic (not to mention far less expensive) in my experience.
I can't remember off hand how much the C fasciatum is but it is slightly more expensive than the Brazilian Salmon. It also doesn't get near as big. If you are wanting to order online here are some places to check out. I have bought from these places and would recommend them.
