into getting a colubrid, what points would you make and what species would you boost? :)

Well colubrids for one are VERY variable without the huge expense of python/boa morphs. You can get pretty much any color and pattern mix you want with a colubrid. That's one thing I can think of. I feel both, boids and colurids have pros and cons and each fits certain people depending on what they like.

I am going to repeat a lot of what Marisa has said but - color is the biggest plus in my opinion and the species diversity. There are so many different ones, such variation in temperament and behaviour.
For me the big plus is genetics - so many different genes and gene combinations in some of the more well worked with species like corns and some milksnakes - there are many that are well worked out and there are so many new ones being uncovered on a regular basis - plenty of fun to hatch clutches even for the regular stuff and very exciting to work toward newer morphs. And they are affordable.
Disadvantage of colubrids in my opinion is poop frequency - just too much and too often, but no worries about fasting with them - they do feed well!

African house snake. They are so much like mini pythons!
I'm a boid lover through and through, but it's definitely nice to have a few colubrids to change things up. They are so much more active and some of them have absolutely crazy colours! I seriously think my cornsnake is one of my favourites. They all have hilarious little personalities... they look so curious. You can't help but smile when they are stalking you through the cage with their big eyes :p Hognoses are also very cool. They look like little rattlesnakes. My little Apricot Pueblan is probably my favourite looking colubrid in my collection, and her spastic nature is quite entertaining, albeit it isn't always the most fun getting musk flung in your face. Although I don't have any experience with them, Cave-Dwelling ratsnakes are absolutely gorgeous, and have some nice size behind them as well. Another looker I wouldn't mind in my collection are Baird's and Everglades rats. Also look very cool. Really, there are just so many cool looking colubrids out there, I don't think I could really choose! LOL and all this coming from a boidlover ;)

They are poop machines, no arguement there! There are other boids however that poop every bit as much (if not more than some), such as Jamaicans Boas and Amazon Tree Boas.
