Hi i just bought an atb at the show and so far it wont eat for me. iv tried 3 time once the day afte ri got him and twice today and he just wont eat the dethawed pinky mouse. hes keept in my room in a 20 gallon tank with a uv light and a 100w heat bulb the humity isint extremly high but not bad i see him move round from time to time but most stays curled up witch i asume issomewhat normal from a nocturnal snake. What should i do try live pinkies?? or any body else have any ideas...........

Let it acclimate. It was transported to a show and then home with you, that is a lot for some snakes. Leave it alone for at least two weeks so if can used to it's new home. Then try to feed it.
In the mean time I would take it out of that tank it is too big and 100w bulb is way too hot. Get a themometer and check your temps. In the mean time here is a good care sheet,
edarkgrove.com/webpages/caresheet.html#cages
So in a nut shell change you cage and then leave it alone. Also find out what it ate last and start there. Also no UV needed.

Try this one.

Good care sheet Trev, I don't agree with what they say about a half an inch of water coving the whole cage though. Even though they are really small, most amazons from neo's to adults (except during breeding season;)will gladly seek out a shelter like a small box on its side etc...
I bet I know what will make it eat :)
Worked for my ATB when it was not eating...
Super heat the FT pinky...
Heat it up in HOT water...
then offer it to the ATB nice and warm..
Bet itll take it then :)
Mine refused to take anything that was not warm / very warm. but as soon as it saw heat.. bang!
Give it a shot and let us know how it goes..
BTW... who did ya buy the ATB from?
I was looking at all of them at the show and am wondering which one ya baught :)

Yes I too think there should be substrate instead of water. One of my babies from this past litter is about 50/50.
Mine has only eaten twice, once was a live and then last night was a hot F/T fuzzy. You wonder how they'll ever get it down but they do. But in this case the caging needs to be corrected before anything else.

Making the mouse very warm worked for me aswell, he wouldn't eat till it was warm.
Also the UV light you bought is not necessary for the snake but if you want to use it there is no problem.
I have sold many many ATB's and cooks tree boas. I have many in my possession that are not for sale, The best way to make him/her eat would be give her 2-3 weeks to get use to his/her new home and your new face and smell. or you may try the heating of the mice. It could be that the previous owner "said" it ate f/t when realisticly it ate LIVE or fresh killed. I have an ATB that will not eat f/t i also have one that would'nt eat and so i figured it was on live and was lied to by it's owner when i bought it.....she would kill the mouse then not eat it, one in time just started to eat fine the second one i have to play with the mouse and make movement... I have also had an atb that i had to literaly force feed... don't be stressed out over this as it is to early to be concerned as you just got the snake 1 week ago. most new atb i get are usualy not eaters right away and can take up to 3-4 weeks. How big is your atb at the moment ?, Are you sure it is not sick? as when they are sick they may not eat... last does it have diarea?.. that one is important as it could be a parasite issue. cut the lamp out maybe it's just to hot for your atb as well as i find when they are to hot they don't really eat much there's so many things it "could" be but i am leaning towards it's just not ready and needs some time before you panic as 1 week is not along time to go without eating.

Last nite i started to build the new terrarium that was shown on that site but ahevnt put him in it when i looked in before school he was movin around so hopefully when i go home in a few hours he will want to eat ill trry to super heat the pinky hopefully that will work. does any body know if young atb will eat anything else for instance feeder fish or anoles.

he shows no signs of diarea or parasites. btw i got the atb from pcpc. there the only one who i say that had any. for size i dont really know im not a good guess of measurement.
Actually there were two larger ATB's for sale at the show besides the ones at PCPets... they were located on the opposite side of the building in front of the place where ya could buy drinks etc...
Let us know how it goes :)
The ones that I saw at PCPets were really small and might have been slightly dehydrated.. Have you noticed yer ATB drinking?
I actually liked them and almost baught one myself.

but if you want to use it there is no problem.
Not true it will cause problems because the proper cage for a neonate ATB will not allow for the placement of a UV light. That and giving UV to herps that don't need it can cause health problems.
If you bought a neonate, which if it came from PCPC it probably was, then you don't need to build anything for it. Buy a shoe box rubbermaid and put some air whole in the side at the top and add a few perches inside, a water bowel, wet paper towel for substrate and an UTH at one end. Get you new snake feeding then worry about a fancy cage.

Well in the wild, they curl up on branch, correct? Then the UV would come down onto the snake.

Ok he is in the new terrarium looks alot like the one on the link need to add some more branches i think. i bought an anole and hes in the old tank im gonna put some pinkies in the container i brote the anole home with and put it in the freezer and see if it helps scent them alittle im gonna try to feed him again in a lill while, so he can get used to his new tank.

Why did you buy an anole? There is no need to freeze it for an atb, if you waited 1 to 2 weeks before trying to feed the little guy there would be no problems. All you have to do is wait a week to 7- 14 days and try to feed him a very warm pinkie mouse/rat.
walmart has awsome clear containers which are tall, clear and have blue locking lid with a handle, perfect for the little ones. I think they are also around $10.oo .

sorry the post mite have confused some i put the anole in my old atb tank ad it was to large for it and i took the bag the anole came in and put some frozin pinkies in it and put it back in the freezer. The anole is alive and healthy =) sorry for the confusion. and great new i heated up the pinky alot today and got an awsome feeding response but then he droped it in the water. so i heated it again and reofered it and put it on a little floating plate. i left and closed my door and when i came home it was gone =) so glad he ate.

I had one that would only eat F/T pinkies left in a small dish in the bottom of the cage. Like you I would leave it there came back and it was gone. I sold a litter to PCPC this fall maybe you got one that I produced. The one I'm talking about was one that I sold. It was a great eater but like I said that is the only way it would eat. Leave it in and walk away and the next morning it was gone.
Here is a pic of the one hold back from the litter.

i ahve a pic of my atb its kinda blurry and the file size is to big could i send it to some one and they could shrink it for me?
sure send it over... shad0w@rogers.com
that's what i say wait a couple of weeks and the water is important if they look dehydrated make sure it is drinking as if it is not eating or drinking there may be slight or no stool as well as urine also when it does eat look for regurge
wish you and your atb the best of luck bud
