Im curious about handling my boa. As this is my first snake and I noticed when I handle him that he flinches when you pet him is this common for a young snake. He dosent mind that you pick him up and he is very active. Sorry for the stupid question.

When you are "petting" him are you touching him close to his head. Most snakes are wut they call head shy. Basically they don't like to have their heads touched and they will jump or jerk, when touched on their head or right below their head. That is perfectly normal for a young snake. the more you handle him the more comfortable he will get.

You can touch him by his head if you want. I would actually recommend it because eventually he will get used to it and won't be skiddish. This may eliminate any possibility of getting bitten when he is older. Just be gentle and slow, use your own judgment as to when to move further up his neck depending on how he reacts.
