I'm building a cage 2x18''x4 for an adult cali king or similiar one (maybe Florida king) Is this cage size alright for snakes under 6 feet? I'm a newbie and just want to make sure the snake is going to be very content.
I'm also not sure exactly where to put the heat lamp or which type is best. I still have lots of research to do before a get a snake.
I'd really like to know how some members have set up their reptariums for kings and milks (pictures would help a lot).
Thanks
check out the enclosure gallery, theres tons of good pics on there.
size sounds ok, my 3.5 foot cali is in a 30 inch viv and doin great.
wherever you put the lamp, make sure the snake cant reach it, it will get a nasty burn.

Mykee I hear you there.

Right....

Well, your going 4 feet high? That's a little overkill in the height. As for the heat lamp, just put it at one end and make sure that he can escape from the heat by making the other end 10 dgrees cooler.

Jglass, nope: "It's the perfect size for me". Might as well grab the steak knife.......

You just underestimated the maturity level or lack thereof of some of the participants on this forum. I speak for myself when saying I couldn't possibly pass up the opportunity.

Never would want to be part of a forum without a little humour.

Assuming you mean 4x2 floor space and 18" high, that would be great for a cal king. They are very active snakes, and will use the space you give them.
So to answer your question.......
No it's not about the size, it's how you use it! lol
