Hi everyone.
I got my first GTP last weekend. I've been very excited and very nervous this past week making sure everything is right. I have a few questions. First, I'll give you a little background. He/she (not sexed) is 5 months old and cb. I was told it was feeding on rat pinkies and fuzzies.

Right now I have him in a 20 gallon tall tank. Once he gets a little bigger I will be moving him into a bigger custom made enclosure.
He has a basking spot at 88 (he never sits there) and the rest of the tank stays around 85 to 80. At night the temp drops to 85 in the hot spot to 77 in the coolest part of the tank. I have been spraying down the enclosure only in the morning and in the evening I spray him down lightly. The humidity is around 80% after spraying him down and by morning it is around 55%.

Since I have had him he hasn't moved much. Only on wednesday did he start to roam a bit after the lights went out. I haven't noticed him move from his spot since. Is this normal when they are introduced to a new home?

I tried tong feeding him on Wednesday, but he just stared at it. I haven't tried since, I didn't want to stress him out. It's been about 9 days since his last meal. I have gotten conflicting info on how often to feed as well. How often do you guys feed neo's?

I guess I'm just a little nervous. I just want everything to be ok. Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
Jamie

I just got my first gtp two weeks ago. I have mine setup in a medium sized rubbermaid which is then in what will eventually be his adult encloser,a custom built enclosure that I built that measures 28x24x24. Temps are at 85F during the day and around a low of 79F during the night. I spray him twice a day very lightly as the rubbermaid holds humidty very well. I find that the rubbermaid(not the clear ones) helps make my chondro feel a bit more secure and has eaten twice for me already. I usally warm up the pinkie with some hot water and he(or she) takes it right away. Your chondro should be on pinkie mice not rats, rat pinks or fuzzies are way to big for a 5 month old chondro. Mine is on large pink mice or small fuzzy mice and its about 8 months old. Hope any of this info helps.good luck

I don't know about giving only pinkie mice, mine took a rat pink like a champ with no problem at all and he's just a little guy. Like with most snakes I believe it's better to get them on rats asap.

Hey,

at 5 months i was feeding my chondro f/t mouse fuzzies every five to six days. At that time it would defectate approximatly once per week. She was still shedding once per month at that time.

My chondro is just over a year now, and i'm feeding f/t rat pups, looking to move up to rat hoppers soon (which will be a big jump). My guess is that the person that sold the snake to you meant to say mouse pinkies and fuzzies, not rat! I personally made the jump up to rats at 8 months (rat pinkies). At that time the snake was approximatly 26" - 27" long. The problem with this is that I reverted back to the small fatty food (as opposed to the small adult mouse with lots of bone/meat and low fat).

Caution with misting at night, the misting will drop the temp even further than the natural night time lows, and the dry period is good to prevent mould growths.

Yep, what Steve said. Misting is usually done during the day time highs, making the cage warm and humid, and allowing it to dry out by night time.

I spray him down usually 3 hours before the lights go out, so I give him enough time to dry and warm up. thanks for the info.
