screen cage humidity for veilds

i have a veild in a 150 gal all screen enclosure... hes still only small so i only have in a 50 gal portion... i mist 3-4 times a day and i have a hame made doubble dripper system. the substrate is always moist and the moss is to...im just a little worried that that im not keepin up proper humidity... how often do chams shed and how long does it usually take.. and is covering a couple of sides the only way to keep the humidity up.... im gonna replace my humidity gauge cause i know its not working.. it hasent moved.. since i got it...

Try to get a better hydrometer and then see what it reads. When I had a cham I found that winter was a pain because of all the dry air. I used a humidifier to help out along with misting.

Do you have a substrate for your veiled? I was told and many books and caresheets say not to use any substrate, I use artifical grass and am not sure if moss is a good substrate.

I spray my cage at least once a day, the humidity stays aorund 60-70%.

If you have live plants, you'll do fine. Live plants increase the humdity. Spray 2-4 times a day. I personal dont use substrate

i use a jungle substrate to keep moisture... hes fed in small yougert cups and margrine containers so i have no prob with him eating it and it somewhat simulates hunting... at the monent i am not useing live plants because a only have him in a 50 gal portion of the tank... but i do have 2 hibicus and a pothos that i will put in... im just not the greatest at keeping plants so im trying to make them nicer before they go in...

what do you guys use for a plant..

Pothos and fake plants, all I do is put the stem of the potho in a jar of water and it grows great!

thats one of the plant i cant seem to keep alive.. lol...

i got a humidity gauge and it says im usually at 50 maybe drop a little over night but it goes up to around 70 after i mist...

how long does it take and how often does a chameleon shed...

In my expereince, I have found that the only substrate to use with adult animals is oak leaf litter. Below are a few reasons why it is perfect
1)It is entirely natural, and looks fabulous
2) The chams cannot really encounter any problems with ingestion, and theoretically, even if they did manage to eat a leaf or two, it would not be an issue mechanically or in terms of any potential toxicity.
3) It is CHEAP... if you do not spray your lawn, you can get a massive amount of these great leaves for free!
4) It is a RENEWABLE resource!
5) It is fabulously easy to clean

I have found it works great with my veileds, and it also is a major substrate component for most of my amphibian collection, most notably dart frogs.

Magnolia leaves are good too, maybe even better. They last long, and being thicker, they are even less likely to be ingested. They do curl a bit though, but not enough to completely hide crickets, it just makes hunting free-range crickets more interesting for the chams.
