i read an article today in reptiles magazine today that said that a large water source was not necessary to keep a green anaconda healthy. it said that they even bred the anacondas properly with only a small water dish for drinking. ive always thought that green anacondas needed huge amouts of water to be happy and heathy. is this true or is the article correct? if u have any pics of your greens post them:)

I've heard of problems when they soak too much. But i don't know for sure.
i have no experience with greens but i did read the same article. i dont think the greens need the big water source in captivity becasue in the wild (and sure i could be wrong) I think greens use the water to travel around, its much easier-they go alot faster and theres no trees and shrubs and rocks and crap in the way like on the forest floor. they also use the water to hunt like alot of other snakes (i remember a show that had either a rock or burmese python that sat in the water for 3 days waiting for its food to come to him).
a green born in captivity will soak alot so i think either way it doesn't matter. i dont think they NEED it but they will use it.

i agree with the idea that they use water for moving around because its easier. thx for the info
I have had both green and yellow anacondas and they do well with just a large water bowl.
In many parts of green anacondas habitat it will dry up for a few months at a time.
Also some anacondas do tend to soak too much getting water blisters. When they go into a shed just spray them down a couple times a day and they will be fine.
