Im moving medusa to a rubbermaid, And we have a few that I can use. We only have them in colors. It doesnt matter that it will be pitch black in there for my snake right?

If anything in the case of a ball it will probably help with security.
Cheers,
Trevor
For the price I would go buy myself a clear rubbermaid, I know I wouldn't want to sit in a pitch black box all my life.

I would recommend buying a rubbermaid that lets some light in but you can't see into they are usually kinda foggy , I don't know really how to describe it .

They sleep all day under ground where no light gets in anyway so what's the difference. When they wake up it's dark out. Many breeders use dark (not black but dark) coloured tubs in their racks.

But some light has to get threw, even if you don't tempature cycle a day and night cycle is still important for a Ball python isn't it?

Im not so sure. I know that it will not always be in there, since I Let her lay next to me while I do my home work and sometimes on hot days, I will let her explore outside for 5 minoutes.

It's not ideal but it will work. Won't be much fun for you because you won't see your ball. And actually now that I think about it if you are opening the cage every time you want to see the snake that's not good either. I'm changing my mind. Spend a few bucks and get a clear one.

I second Trevor's last statement.. if you have this animal as a pet, get a clear tub.. make sure your snake has a hide or two so it feels safe, but I think it will be better for both of you if you get a clear tub.
Good luck and keep us posted!

I use the semi-clear tubs...they don't let as much light in but you can still see in well enough to keep an eye on them without opening the tub.

Thank you for all your help. I am going to buy a clear one. Should I buy the flatter kind or the taller ones?

I guess that depends on what you are going to try to do with your setup.. for ball pythons, 6" to 10" is high enough for them.. if you want them to climb a bit 'n' stuff you may want to get a taller tub.. if it's just for a pet, I personally would probably get a taller one and put something for it to climb on when it moves around, but that's just my opinion...

Think of a ball in the wild, in the day there in a burrow.....no light, pitch black and at night there out, when it is pitch black out....just the moonshine....I think your ball will enjoy it :)
Doesn't matter to me which ones you get, either one will work well.

OK I think I will get a little taller one. My python likes to lay on the branch I put in there.

Yea, but a day and night schedule should be necessary. Just because it is dark underground doesn't mean that the Ball python doesn't realize the fact that it is Light outside of his hide. Being that Ball pythons can stress easily I could see a Ball python becoming stressed by living in a perpetual darkness. They may enjoy dark places and feel secure in them, but not having any light may confuse them. Then again, I'm just guessing and have no actual facts to back up what I'm saying.

Same here buddy..lol....I'm guessing they don't see light very often...but to be on the safe side get a clear one.
The light debate aside, I think it definitely helps to be able to see your snake through the cage somewhat for general monitoring purposes.

Yes, I am going to get a clear one. Thanks for all of everybodys help.
the moon is a source of light therefore being a nocturnal creature does not mean it lives in a pitch black environment and as someone mentioned previously...even when hiding there is still light outside of thier burrow which they may be aware of.
I would not recommend an opaque enclosure because that would not simulate a natural environment. Just an added 2cents:)
