Dude, I played that again the other day for the first time in 10 years! In all my hours (over 100+ back in the day), I could NEVER get past Soda-Popinski. No lie. My friend beat it the first night, and to this DAY (15 years later), he STILL bugs me about it!

That is SO funny/weird that you brought that up!@

Bald Bull IS Charles Barkley.

Killer game..... I had the original punch out with Mr. Dream. That old cart should be kicking around somewhere in my basement.

I always liked Don Flamenco's pre-fight dance.

Anyone notice the stunning resemblance between King Hippo and Butterbean?????

CDN-Cresties
11-23-04, 08:31 PM
LMAO, yeah Mr. Dream is exactly like Tyson in every way.

I've been playing a lot of emulated tetris lately.. I just love the music :).. and that big zip file with the 700 games rocks..

OMG...what a blast from the past. I use to clock some serious hours playing Mike Tyson's punch out. I have beaten Tyson many times. There is actually a rythym that you must learn. You have time everything perfectly. It has been so many years since I played this game, I have totally forgotten what the sequences are. It's like a spit second between the flash and his fury of punches, he is one fast mofo.

Ah emulators...

Had a craving to play River City Ransom one day, and then regretted the idea when I started finding ALL the old classics...

Who knew you could waste your youth TWICE in one lifetime...?

Bionic Commando and the first CastleVania (Zelda 1 not included) are the BEST games ever.

And Stinger. That was a cool game. Like Gradius, but with cartoon planes.

Famco is a great emulator as well.

Anyone ever play a game called Rygar?

Best NES games:
Ninja Gaiden
Metal Gear
Tetris
Castlevania
Zelda
Link
Baseball Stars (not a baseball fan but the trading and making players was wicked)
Punchout
Bladze Of Steel
Mario 3

:D

Double J

Rygar ROCKED!!!!!!!
Still, I think the best game for the NES was the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy. I STILL find myself playing that game of a semi-regular basis. My only beef with that game was that the memory function on the cartridge was a little iffy... and erased my game a number of times. Still, that game is a masterpiece. The revamped version for PS1 is a great time as well.... but the original just has that magic about it... I'm not one of these guys who jumped on the Final Fantasy VII bandwagon... though it is a complete and total masterpiece... I was there since day one, and stayed there, though I stil think that Final Fantasy 8 and X-2 were completely and utterly awful . I think Final Fantasy's golden age was that of it's time on the SNES...... Ahhhhhh.... Final Fantasy 2 and 3 (aka 4 and 6 in Japan)..... It doesn't get much better than those. What other SNES game had an Opera scene???? Kain the dragoon is the man!!

Castlvania...... Good call Jeff. I have been a follower since the beginning as well. The trilogy for NES was phenomenal... though I must say that my fave of the three was Castlevcania 3: Dracula's Curse. Nothing beat changing into that wizard Sypha, or climbing walls as Grant DaNasty throwing those huge daggers.
That said, the best game of the series in total was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night for PS1....... A long, secret laden game with GORGEOUS 2d graphics... Gimme beautifully crafted sprites ANY DAY.... I love 2d games like that.... people just don't appreciate how gorgeous this game looked... everyone was just whining and complaining that it was still in 2d when it came out. I think this is one of the most underrated games of all time. It is in my top three favorite games ever..... a fabulous game that should get a second look from gamers.

I also am a big fan of Legacy of the Wizard. That game was a blast..... and what about Faxanadu????? One of my top 5 fave NES games... The Dragon Warrior games were fun too... if a bit primitive.. thogh I loved number 2. Blaster Master was a good one too. Yo Noid was a wtotally bizarre, but incredible game too. How many other games had pizza eating contests?

I think I am going to fire up my old NES tonight. Is there any better waste of time??

you know what game was pretty good, but never got too much attention? StarTropics.. I think i'm going to load it up right now.. :)

Ice Hockey(I liked it better than Blades of Steel, sorry Tim)
World Cup Soccer
Super Dodgeball(I bought a GBA just to play the Dodgeball game)
Final Fantasy
River City Ransom
BattleToads
Super Spike V-Ball
MegaMan 2(I think it was #2)
Contra

Jeff_Favelle
11-24-04, 12:37 PM
Rygar was indeed awesome Tim! Getting that grappling hook was just amazing! And then beating that Lion dude with the rings of flames that come out? That was the best night ever ha ha! I even recorded it on VHS (maybe Beta? LOL!).

Contra rocked and so did Super-Spike Volleyball.

And Double Dribble!

Most frusterating? Kid ICarus.

Most of these games are in the ZIP file I have. My fav NES cames in no particular order are:

Final Fantasy
Punch Out
Super Mario 3
Guerilla War
A Boy and His Blob
Top Gun
Contra

I also am a big fan of Legacy of the Wizard

That game had WAY advanced graphics for its time man. Totally!

FF was definitely good as well. Getting the canoe and being big enough to kill ogers (to get all the gold) was the secret.

Bomberman rocked (multiplayer) and so did Life Force.

I'm sure we could play it online man. I think one of the emulators supports it!

Or, we could do a high-score thing where you have to post a screenshot of you high score! That would rock, ha ha!!

Tim_Cranwill
11-24-04, 09:03 PM
Yeah... I guess you don't want a bunch of dirty, smelly 20-somethings in your fancy livingroom then! :D :p

What about R.C. Pro-Am?

I wasted countless hours on that as well. That has to take the cake for the most fun car-racing game for NES in my opinion.

CDN-Cresties
11-24-04, 11:47 PM
RC PRO AM rocks, part 2 is better IMO. I love when they have those challenges when you have to hit the A and B button like crazy.

Jeff_Favelle
11-24-04, 11:47 PM
RC Pro Am was the BOMB! Same with the NES version of Super Sprint. Although the arcade version rocked the house! That and ice-cream sandwiches WERE the Summer of '88.

LOL!

11-24-04, 11:51 PM
Pro Wrestling and I get to be King Slender. He was unstoppable. That is, until my idiot friend mastered Fighter Hyabousu's back-brain kick.

The rat b$stard! LOL!

Tim_Cranwill
11-24-04, 11:56 PM
Fighter Hyabousa!!! LOL

Man, oh man... wouldn't it be scary to get an hourly breakdown of what games you played and for how long? Yikes! :D Me and my bros had full seasons with sheets and sheets of stats using Blades Of Steel. I think that and The Legend Of Zelda would top my hourly list.

Jeff_Favelle
11-25-04, 12:02 AM
The heartbreaker Crannie, was that the rumour going around school at the time, in The Legend of Zelda you could only beat the game after 10 rounds. Meaning you had to defeat Ganon 10 times before you actually beat The Game! As we all know, the levels and that change the 2nd time around, bu that's it. So of course, EVERYONE at the time had to beat it 10 times. Now THAT was wasted time. Very much wasted time.

LOL!

I can't believe no one has mentioned Double Dragon 2, or Life Force!! Or Bubble Bobble!!! LMAO!! That takes me back. I used to love how you have to finish with a friend to actually truly finish it. LOL!

I have to totally agree with Ninja Gaiden and Contra. Awesome games!

How about worst games? I gotta say Back to the Future. Totally sucked.

Jeff_Favelle
11-25-04, 01:38 AM
I mentioned Life Force (Gradius 2) WAAAAY back on page 2 man. Get wit da times!

Contra was good (left-right left-right "B" "A" Start, heh heh get it??), but Ikari Warrriors was dope too! ("ABBA").

Hmmmm..... I never heard it called that. Always called it 'Life Force'. Well hey! It was a great game whatever it was called! :D

Life Force was Gradius Part 2 (but I actually said "Life Force" way back on page 2).

AHH!

Congrats on beating Tyson!!! I still can't.

I'm trying to remember all the games everyone's said, cuz they're all so great! I get made fun of by my roommates because I spend more time playing NES than studying. (Not joking.)

The Legend of Zelda... I love it. Probably my favorite.
EXCITEBIKE! (I don't remember who said that one)
Anyone remember the BMX Games?...Hackeysack... Frisbee...
I love Battletoads, too. I recently got addicted to Yoshi, the one where you have to switch the platforms to match up icons... It's a good one to play when you're tired.
Castlevania is friggin hard. Umm I love life force.

HEY DID ANYBODY HERE EVER HAVE THE POWER GLOVE?!?!!?!?

It was mine and my brother's DREAMS to have one when we were little. Last summer, we put our names on a wait list at Microplay so they'd call us when someone brought one in..... It sucked. so much. It was impossible!!!!!!! =(

And of course SM, that goes without saying, though. Duck tales.. Chip N Dale... Tiny Toons...

Am I blind, or has nobody mentioned MEGA MAN!?!?!?!?!?!? And the Double Dragon/Battletoads game...

How about older computer games... anyone remember any of these?

Day of the Tentacle, Wacky Wheels, Halloween Harry, COMMANDER KEEN!, The Incredible Machine, Goblins!!, The Secret of Monkey Island, KING'S QUEST, POLICE QUEST!! (<-- I'm stuck on this right now, so if anyone's an expert on #1, let me know =)), Maniac Mansion!, Skyroads, Stunts.... Space Quest??? That's all I can really think of right now...... Sam and Max hit the road.... =)

Ok I should probably get back to doing work... I have a lab due in 2 hours, and I haven't started, hahaha... too many games to play, too little time!!!
