Hey I was wondering about how much (american) it would cost to build a shelf of 1" pine, 6 ft tall, 30 inches wide by 20 inches deep.

I can't afford those insane prices charged for pre made shelves that you can only basicly keep babies in. They're rediculously priced and I'm set on buying them. I'll be putting on 4 shelves including the top.

Also if anyone else has built their own shelves if you could tell me what you used and how much it costs I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance

By "shelf" do you mean "rack"? If so, I would not recommend pine, as it would have to be sealed, and that's a pain in the a$$. Melamine is the way to go. You can pick it up and have it cut to spec at any of the "big box" hardware stores. $30 for a 4' x8' sheet. You could probably build the "rack" for $100-$150 which does not include rubbermaids, a heat source, or thermostat. Good luck.

I ended up going to home depot and found a nice hard plastic material shelving that held 1000 lbs. I tested this theory as soon as I got it by puttin all 750 lbs of my weights on it for a day before I put tanks on it, and it held up great. It's over 6 ft tall, each 20 inches in between each shelf, 20 inch depth, and 35 inch width. Definatly worth the 30.00
