Leo Question

I have been doing a bit of research of leopard geckos but I just have a couple questions left. What kind of substrate should i put in its humid hide? Also are wax worms alright to feed them. Thanks for any input.

Wax Worms should be fed as a treat, not a regular feeder. They are high in fat and can be addictive. Alot of people use them when females are laying eggs, or to stimulate feeding in picky eaters.

Eco earth is good, its made of coconut husk, easily digested in the leo's stomach acids, and it stays moist for a fairly long time. Paper towels work too, however they require lots of misting. I'm using vermiculite right now, its pretty hard to find right now in my area, don't know about yours though.

I use vermiculite in my humid hides, and waxworms are a good ocassional treat.

Perlite isn't recommended for hide boxes or nesting boxes. It's too easy for the geckos to swallow the partcles which MIGHT lead to impaction. Eco-earth, shredded coconut husk, peatmoss, ceramic tiles, paper towel are safe and a lot easier to use.

I've used a bunch of stuff in the past but currently i'm using paper towel for the majority of them.

Display cages use shredded coconut husk.. I think Forest bed is the brand name... the expandable stuff.

For humid hides I use sphagnum moss. Give it a spray every few days and it stays nicely damp.

Thanks for all the info. The reason I am asking about the wax worms is because she wont eat at all. What happened is that I went into our local pet store on Saturday and noticed her in her enclosure in the back room and she was missing her tail. I asked the guy (who I know) how much he wanted for her because I kind of felt sorry for her.....he told me that he knew I would take good care of her and told me just to take her. So me being me, I did. I got her on Saturday and she hasnt eaten a thing. So far I have tried mealworms and small crickets. Her color has gone really pale since I got her too. Is this maybe because she is going to shed or because she hasn't eaten? Again, thanks so much for the info.
