Never bathes

I am just wondering if it is a good thing that my ball never goes into his water dish. It is large enough if he wanted to use it, but he never does.

I know that it can be a problem if you snake is always in the dish, but I was wondering if the opposite could be true?

I am guessing it just means my humidity and temps are right, but I thought I would just ask anyways.

The only time any of mine soaked I found mites so I consider it good when they don't soak and start close examination if they do soak!! LOL

Well that is what I thought......
Now I am just going to be worried if he ever decides to soak.

Ball Pythons never see standing water in nature, so why would they have the instinct (or NEED) to go and bathe in your water dish?

They aren't hard-wired for it.

How do they get their water needs in nature?
Precipitation and just from their food?

Most snakes get a lot of their water needs from food, just like people do.

But I haven't had one yet that won't drink when it's head is dipped into the water so one can assume they also use rain and droplets as a source.

A couple dew drops wouldn't be large enough for them to bathe in, LOL! ;)

I've yet to see any of mine soak in their dish. From what I've read they do it when in shed and the humidity isn't high enough, if they have mites, or if the temperature is too high.

I guess it's a good thing I don't see them soaking then ;)
