What am I?

We can't seem to figure out what type of albino this girl is. Can anyone answer this for us?

This is a male super hypo pastel that we got at the last show. If we breed this to the albino, what possibilities could we end up with?

Well, I would have to say the first is a tremper. The second is a normal phase pastel. In order to be considered hypo there would have to be minimal body spots and even fewer still to be a super hypo. If you breed the two you should end up with some nice looking normals, some of which would be het albino. Now, in my years of breeding I have found that hets for albino and blizzard usually hatch out pale or "pastel", with many evenly patterned, small spots over their bodies and tails, much like your guy. I would bet money that it is het for one or both, so you may get lucky and actually get some albinos by breeding those to together:D Here's a great site to visit for genetics or what morphs give you what babies. www.geneticswizard.com Hope the link works now:D

Thanks for the link, although trying to get our eight year old to understand that may be a bit harder. We do the snake thing and she really likes the geckos and wants to start breeding them(with us watching over) in afew years.
Let's say we're going to the upcoming show this weekend....what types should we look into to partner with the above.
Are gecko genetics just like snakes?

Hmm, gecko genetics eh?:D Well, the percntages are the same with het pairings, with the exception of mixing albino and blizzard. For some reason these traits are VERY incompatible and you need a whole lot of hets to even have a chance of producing blazing blizzards!

For the female albino I would get another female tremper and a male one too. A nice trio is always a good thing:D For the "pastel" male, should it truley be a pastel (not just a het for something else al together) I would look for equaly as pale a female, maybe one with fewer spots, or darker spots on a very light body. Something that stands out from the rest. Good luck with them and any future purchases:D

Tim and Julie: We haven't seen many other "pastels". What are some qualities to look for in a pastel? As we said before, we're not gecko people so we know very little about them besides how to house them, etc.
Just curious about the comment of the "pastel" possibly being a het...is that due to the pale colouration?

Forgot to ask what makes the blizzard?

Blizzard is just another recessive trait.

Generally speaking they have pure white to purpleish bodies and black eyes. No spots at all. They tend to get lighter as they get older so the really dark ones don't stay dark.

I've also heard of "Midnight Blizzards" which are all very dark purple/black and stay that way their whole life but have yet to actually see even a pic of one, though I haven't looked in a while.

In my opinion, a pastel should be creamy yellow with some lavender highlights, almost like someone tried to "erase" the color from the gecko:D

I have found that all of my hets posses the same qualities: uniform, tiny spots from head to tail and a pale coloration. Some with pastel coloration, some greyish/cream. I have even purchased "pastels" from other breeders, which exhibited the traits my hets do, and proved them out to be hets for this or that. Never did end up with true pastels from any of the hets, leading me to believe it(pastel) is a genetic trait linked to the hets. I'm still working on this one, and over the years I have produced two amazing rainbows(like a pastel only they are cream, yellow, lavender and pale green/grey) and a few pastels from a couple of my pastel breeders, but more often than not the babies have been normals or high yellows. I'm still working on the super hypo pastel. For the most part I end up with dull tangerines or high yellows, so I'm not convinced that the pastel is a true morph:D
