Ok, I have been having humidity problems so I switched from paper towels to bed a beast. Is this ok??

yep shouldnt be a problem.....altho balls usually live in dry areas i would only bring up the humidity when he/she is about to shed.

May also want to take a look at the cage you are using if you are having hummidity problems. Could be you have a bigger problem then just substrate.

the nice thing about bed a beast (if its the cypress mulch one im thinking about) is that it can dry out so it wont always have the high humidity but, you can spray it as needed for a higher humidity that will last a day or two.

bedabeast is coconut hulls.....

and you shouldn't have to use that for substrate to keep humidity.... but i'm guessing the bp is in a tank

I keep pretty much all of my animals on bed a beast lol including bp's. It is great because once they go into shed I dump a glass of water in it everyday until their done and I have never had a shed problem, so in short yes it is fine. Makes cleaning alot more time consuming though.

The only bad thing I've ever encountered with bed a beast is the in generally tends to damp for a long time ( which is good in your case) but I usually end up taking a blow dryer and attempt to dry it faster and than just spray twice a day because at least that way your snake is not on constant dampness. has anyone else ever run into this? (maybe i use too much water in the oringinal mix but i usually squeeze most of the water out. Also if your having humidity problems covering the tank top with a breathble material ( towels work well) will raise it dramaticly just keep it away from the lamps ( had a near bruning of the house with that once...opps)

OK. I guess I will keep using it. It is dry right now, but every night/ morning I use a water bottle and spray it.

Its ok that I am using a 20 gallon glass tank right?

You can use it, but almost everyone here is going to tell you that it’s not recommended. They will also recommend you use a Rubbermaid. I find, now that I have two males (one in a tank and one in a Rubbermaid) that the one in the Rubbermaid eats rats much easier then the one in the glass tank, the Rubbermaid holds humidity better, keeps the snake feeling more secure, and there is a long list of reasons why it’s better.

You CAN use a glass tank, but it doesn’t always mean its better. The famous line is, aquariums are for fish :)

If you dont mind me asking, can anyone show me there ball python rubbermaid homes? Also, how would I heat it?

I heat mine with an under tank heater such as a heat pad by zoo med, or some people use them in racks with heat tape (flexwatt)

I now use a hide I made out of wood, but thats basically all you would need. I was also told the pvc isnt good, but dont remember why.

See with the bedding it seems that the tank doesnt get any warmer. is that because there is bed a beast on top of it?
What temps do they normally stay at? Can the heat pad melt the rubbermaid?

It shouldnt. If its getting that hot its either broken or you could hook it up to a thermostat or dimmer but that shouldnt be needed for the zoo med heat pads. Mine brings it to exactly 90 degrees, give or take a degree depending on the house temp.

My ball python is still a baby, so what size should it have?

The one in the pic is a 26.4 L rubbermaid. Id say thats fine for babies and adults. Well im not 100 percent on adults as mine havnt really reached that point yet, but I assume it would be fine. Maybe not for those bigger females, but for males yea.
