Put a little male that I had cycling for a couple weeks in. He cruised around and then hid under the wood slab on the cool end. Female starting vibrating her tail rapidly (ala rattlesnake or colubrid) and then she raised it and squirted all this juice out. Here's a pic of her tail:

Then, about 2-3 minutes later, the male comes screamin' out of the hide spot and starts to court her. He was all over her, much like a milksnake or kingsnake male. Here's a pic:

Within about 4 minutes or so, there was penetration. They were so placid too. I even moved the male's upper 1/3 to get this pic. Once they are breeding, you can't do anything that'll make them stop. If they bail when you touch the cage, then they aren't breeding. During courting, the female can get spooked, but during mating, I feel that you can move most pythons around and do pretty much whatever you want. They seem to be in a trance, much like when boas give birth. Pic here. Couldn't get my arms in to lift the tail to get a pic of insertion as the litter dam is too high. You get the idea though. Female is 16 months old. I'm not getting my hopes up. This is more of an excercise to turn the males I have into MACHINES. LOL! :D

Beautiful pictures, and great ones to make me wonder. I see no heat pits. I had been told ages ago that all pythons have heat pits, so I am wondering about that :p

Hey, it's like 1 Am and I'm still awake....sure wish I could sleep lol!

This story sounds famililar heh heh. Wish my silly male wasn't such a freak though. His "trance" can & has been disturbed & the other younger male is more scared of her than he is horny LOL I'm not sure if he got any or not but my scaredy male has been "in" on multiple occassions. I too have my doubts for this year, but practice makes perfect now don't it. I see someone down East produced this year, our time will come eh Jeff! Cheers & Good Luck Man! Mark

I did see those ones out east. They looked awesome! But then again, they all do, ha ha!

I know they aren't womas, but I put the male blackhead in with the female today, and it didn't take long for them court and intertwine. No penetration was witnessed, but then I didn't go lifting them up to get a closer look.

Hey guys, keep up producing tons of baby womas! Maybe some day the price will have gotten down a bit and i'll be able to get a few of them... I wanted them for a long while and it seems like i'll still have to wait a few years before i get the really good woma deal...

Sixteen months? Isn't that a bit young?

Actually, whatever, I'm not even going to argue it, but that just seems too young to me.

She won't lay eggs. Its a tiny trade secret to acclimating animals to the nuances of breeding. I combat male Rainbows and Jungles when they are a year of age with older, bigger animals. This way, when year 2 or 3 hits, they aren't like "what the heck is this all about". Its about getting them familiar with the process. This female wasn't even cycled (but the male was). She just ate a huge rat today.

Next step is to add another male to the situation and see what happens. And you can be sure as heck come winter 2005/2006, these guys will be OUTSTANDING breeders. Laying the foundation for it right now.'

Thanks for the concern.

So, you place an imature cycled male with a mature noncycled female to get the male familiar with the act. Do you do this with all snake species? Sounds like a great idea, almost like when I snuck into a strip bar when i was 13, lol.

No, the male is old enough. He's 1.5 years. He's one of my good breeders right now, and is breeding up a storm. But yes, I would have combatted him and showed him some females this year, even if I wasn't trying to breed him. I do it with Boas, Rainbows, Carpets, and Hondos. I don't bother with the Ball Pythons as they are crazy breeders anyways.

Chris, I don't think she'll lay eggs without being cycled. Stranger things have happened. Womas are Aussie though. And Aussie stuff seems to grow fast and furious. But it would surprise me if she took it any further Chris. She just ate again today. Stranger things have happened though bro! :)

Here's the male breeding a 3 year old female this morning:

Its just another tool for breeders to use to condition their animals to the nuances of breedings. Its works better for some animals that others. In my opinion, if 10 minutes of work could be the difference between a fertile clutch and an infertile clutch the subsequent year, I'll work for an extra 10 minutes. LOL!!
