His leg swelling is almost totally resolved, so I removed the Penrose drain today. Unfortunately, he now has just his "thumb" on that foot but the leg is no longer infected and the wound is scarring down nicely.

Now that he's feeling a little better, it turns out The Gimp is a blonde!!:D

Hee hee, he's getting really spoiled, I take pity on him hobbling after his food and he gets lots and lots of handfeeding.

Guess I better start chasing him around a bit so he gets enough exercise.

What a pretty boy! Has he grown at all during this time? how long do you think it will take for the wound to ehal now the infection has cleared up?

He's not grown in length, but the width of his hips and shoulders has increased by maybe 75% and he's gained 2 grams. Externally the wound is nearly healed already, but it will probably take 2-3 months for the inside of the wound, which was in contact with the drain, to heal completely.

I had to keep the drain in 2 days longer than I had hoped, so the wound may have scarred down around it, and that "calf" may always look a bit thick but I won't know that for sure until he sheds off the bruised skin and internal healing progresses.

Whatever happens, I'm still pretty happy with his progress and a leg with a swollen appearance is better than one amputated above the knee, which was originally what I feared we might have to do. He's going to be a fast-moving guy once he rebuilds his strength for a few weeks. :-)

One of my vet friends, an orthopedic specialist, emailed me today to let me know he wants to adopt the Gimp. Obviously, the Gimp will be in excellent hands and how could I say no??

The Gimp will be leaving me this evening and should have an excellent life.
