View Full Version : UTH for baby gecko?
I was just wondering if I can use a UTH for my baby leopard gecko. I will be bringing her home in a week or so and want to get stuff set up asap. I bought one of those Faunatanks to keep her in and its the step below the biggest model you can get. Is this fine or do you have any suggestions.

as long as your animal has access to a warm part of the tank, I beleive leopard geckos are around 90f it does not matter how you acheive the warm spot. Just be careful with uth because if you dont have a dimmer on them they can reach heats as high as 180f.

I have been using ceramic tiles over the UTH (with paper towel in between to avoid grass breaking - glass+ceramic=bad news), and I average at 89f. I have a 8W (8"x8") exoterra under a 20g high aquarium, and I use a thermostat unit. When turned to 95f, I used an external thermometer and it never got above 93f. This is all in my environment, yours maybe different, but avoid direct contact with pad, as it is hot.... put a dimmer switch in an extension cord, and plug UTH in it if you need to get heat turned down.
